Exercise 5
Purpose: to help students complete a table with adverbs
· Revise the adverbs in Exercise 4. Then direct students to the table. Say "Complete the table with the correct adverbs from the Word Build. er". Monitor as students complete the table. Have students work in pairs if they need support.
· Go over the answers, having individual students read the sentences aloud.

Exercise 6
Purpose: to help students circle the correct words to complete sentences
· Direct students to the sentences. Point to the first sentence. Ask " What part of speech is slow?" Elicit an adjective. Then ask " What part of speech is slowly?" Elicit an adverb. Have students tell you the parts of speech for the words in the other sentences. You may skip this step if you feel students are ready to do the exercise.
· Say "Read the sentences and circle the correct words". Monitor as students circle the words, offering assistance as needed.
· Go over the answers, having individual students read the sentences aloud.

Exercise 7
Purpose: to help students complete sentences with adverbs
· Direct students to the Sentence Builder. Read he sentences aloud, or have a student read them. Ask " What part of speech are the words in bold?" Students should be able to tell you that loudly, quickly and slowly are adverbs. Explain that too and very are also adverbs, and that we use them to qualify, or give emphasis to, other adverbs. Note the placement of too and very, before the adverbs.
