Warm-up
Exercise 1
Purpose: to help students take notes and talk about their favourite teachers
· Direct students to the photo. Ask " Who do you think she is? What do you think her job is?" Elicit an appropriate response, for example, She's a grandmother. Say "She is a teacher. " Tell students a little bit about your favourite teacher. Answer these questions: What was his or her name? What did he or she teach? Why was he or she your favourite teacher? What was he or she like? If possible, bring in a photo from your schooldays with your teacher. If you feel your students are ready, you may skip this step.
· Direct students to the questions. Read the questions aloud. Say " Think about your favourite teachers. Take notes". Monitor as students take notes, offering help as needed.
· Have students get into pairs. Say " Discuss your answers to the questions in pairs". Monitor as your students discuss the questions, offering assistance as needed.
· When students have finished speaking, come together as a class and have a few students talk about their favourite teachers, or have them tell the class about their partners' favourite teachers.
Listening
Exercise 2
Purpose: to help students complete sentences based on a listening
· Direct students to the sentences. Ask " What are the key words in the sentences?" Give students a few moments to read the sentences and identify about the key words. Then elicit the answers. (1. anniversary; 2. years; 3. didn't do , at first; 4. changed, new) Explain that students are going to listen to an inter-view. When they listen, they should pay attention to these words and phrases. If you feel your students are ready, you may skip this step.
· Say "Listen to the interview. Complete the sentences". Play the first part of the recording, pausing if necessary. Monitor
