Warm-up
Exercise 1
Purpose: to help students know holidays
· Direct students to the photos. Ask " What do the photos show?" Elicit an appropriate response, for example, The top photo shows a lake. This photo shows the Terracotta Warriors in Xian. etc. If you feel your students are ready, you may skip this step.
· Direct students to the Key Words. Read them aloud, having students repeat after you. Then ask " Which of these activities do the pictures show?" Elicit go on a tour and go swimming (in a lake or the sea). To confirm understanding of the other Key Words, ask questions, for example, "Which photo looks like a summer camp?" Elicit or provide the photo of the lake. Say "You can often swim at summer camps. What else can you do?" Elicit appropriate responses, for example, You can go hiking or for walks. You can play games and do art activities. Follow the same procedure with study abroad if you feel your students aren't sure of meaning.
· Say "Think about your summer holiday. Ah, it will be so nice... I want to [go to a summer camp]. " Write the phrase I want to + [verb phrase]. on the board. Point out that we use the base form of the verb after want to. Have students practise using I want to + the Key Words.
· Have students get into small groups of three or four. Ask "How do you want to spend you summer holiday? Tell your classmates". Monitor as students talk, offering assistance as needed.
· Have a few students say how they want to spend their summer holiday, or say how their partners want to.
· If time allows, do Workbook page 93, Exercise 1. Alternately, assign for homework.
