If you feel your students are ready, you may skip this step. · Direct students to the Word Builder. Say "Complete the Word Builder. Pay attention to any spelling changes". Monitor as students complete the chart, offering assistance as needed. You may wish to point out that because sun has the C-V-C ( consonant-vowel-consonant) pattern, we must double the final consonant before adding the y.
