Warm-up
Exercise 1
Purpose: to help students know adjectives to describe weather
· Write In the spring, it's warm and rainy. on the board. Underline rainy. Ask "Is rainy a noun (a thing) or an adjective ( it describes something) ?" Elicit or provide It's an adjective. Ask " What's the noun form of rainy?" Elicit or provide rain and circle it in the word rainy. Explain that we can make some nouns into adjectives. Ask " What do we add to make the noun rain into an adjective?" Elicit We add a y. If you feel your students are ready, you may skip this step.
· Direct students to the Word Builder. Say "Complete the Word Builder. Pay attention to any spelling changes". Monitor as students complete the chart, offering assistance as needed. You may wish to point out that because sun has the C-V-C ( consonant-vowel-consonant) pattern, we must double the final consonant before adding the y. If students need support, have them work in pairs.
· Go over the answers, having individual students say them aloud.

Note: Use this activity with more proficiem students. Ask students other questions about today's weather, for example, " What clothes should you wear today? What can we do out. side today? Do you like this kind of weather? Why or why not?" Check students' pronunciation of the Key Words and Key Expressions.
