Exercise 6
Purpose: to help students make sentences in the future simple with cues
· Say "Say the name of a city!" Elicit the name of a city, for example, Hangzhou. Write it on the board. Say "Tell me at least one adjective to describe the weather". Elicit an appropriate response, for example, cold and cloudy. Then say "Tell me a day in the future". Elicit an appropriate response, for example, tomorrow afternoon. Write that on the board. Then say "Let's make a sentence from these words". Elicit a sentence from your students, for example, It will be cold and cloudy in Hangzhou tomorrow afternoon. If you feel your students are ready, you may skip this step.
· Direct students to the words. Say " Make sentences with the words". Monitor as students write sentences, offering assistance as needed. Direct students to the weather report in Exercise 3 as a model, particularly for item 3 (There will be. .. ) and item 4 (It'll be a ..day... ).
· Go over the answers, having students first compare them with a partner. Then have individual students read the sentences aloud.
