Warm-up
Exercise 1
Purpose: to help students know places near their homes
· Bring in photos from magazines of the following places: bank, bus stop, hospital, museum, police station, post office, train station, underground. Hold up the photo of the bank and say "There is a bank near my home. Bank. Repeat. " Have students repeat after you. Hold up the other photos, saying "There is / There isn't a bus stop near my home . Continue with the photos, having students repeat after you. You may also use the Picture Dictionary on page 114, Places, to teach the Key Words.
· Ask a more proficient student " Is there a bank near your home?" Elicit an appropriate response, encouraging the student to answer in a complete sentence.
· Have students get into pairs. Say "Look at the Key Words. Are there any of these places near your home? Talk to your partner". Monitor as your students ask and answer questions, offering assistance as needed. Check students' pronunciation of the Key Words.
· If time allows, do Workbook page 87, Exercise 1. Alternately, assign for homework.
Exercise 2
· Purpose: to help students find places on a map. Direct students to the map. Ask a more proficient student "Excuse me. Which street is the train station on?" Elicit The train station is on Red Street. Direct student to the Example is necessary. Be sure to say "Thank you!" after the student answers you. If you feel your students are ready, you may skip this step.
· Have students get into pairs. Say "Look at the map". Read the street and road names aloud, or have a student read them. Make sure students can pronounce the street and road names. Explain that we use on with streets and roads. Point out that street names are capitalized in English. Then say "Find the places on the map. Which road or street are they on?" Encourage your student
