Exercise 1
Purpose: to help students know adjectives to describe people
· Hold up an object, for example, a pencil. Say "This is a pencil. What colour is it?" Elicit the colour, for example, yellow. Say "This pencil is yellow". Write the sentence on the board. Ask " What word describes, or gives information about, the pencil?" Elicit or provide yellow. Point to a more proficient student. Direct students to the Key Words. Say " Here are some adjectives we can use to describe people". Hold up one of the pictures, for example, of an old man. Say "He's old. Old." Have students repeat the Key Word. Continue with other pictures, saying sentences and having students repeat the adjectives. To confirm comprehension, hold up a picture of a young person, for example, and ask "Is he / she old?" Students should indicate no. Say "He / She isn't old. He / She's young". Continue in this way until you feel students understand the meaning of each adjective.
