The causes of tsunami:
Tsunami are triggered(引发,诱发) by intense(强烈的) activity, usually an or an underwater
. These events displays(表露(特点)) huge volumes(量) of water, pushing it up from the ocean's floor to its surface. But when gravity(引力) pulls it back down, all this built up(积累的) energy is released (释放) outwards, forming that grow stronger as they ripple(扩散) across the ocean.
The danger of tsunami
A tsunamis waves can be kilometers long and sometimes taller than meters. They can travel across whole oceans, moving at the speed of a jet airplane.
How does anyone stand a chance(有可能,有希望) against a tsunami?
1. Know the signs. The first step to survival is to be able to the early signs of a tsunami. In most cases an earthquake comes a tsunami. So if you're near the , and you experience an earthquake, protect yourself from that first. But once the shaking stops, move to as quickly as possible.
2. Stay away from the beach. An early sign of an impending(逼近的) tsunami is that the water along the coast will
(逐渐退去). It pulls back and exposes the seafloor. Do not go to the beach to investigate. You'll only be putting yourself for when the water surges back. Instead, head in the (相反的) direction. Try to get as far as km from the ocean or or meters above sea level to ensure your safety.
3. Seek higher ground. When you don’t have enough time to clear(使人离开) the hazard zone, look for a tall building with a sturdy(坚固的) concrete foundation(混凝土地基). If you see one nearby, run inside and get to the as quickly as possible.
4. Grab onto something and hold on. If you can't get to higher ground in time, you need to find
