字词句巧学妙记活用 Book 2 Unit 1 Discovering Useful Structures Part 1 Word study likely possible, probable & likely 可能的 这三个单词都是形容词，表示可能的这个意思，但是用法上有很大区别。 possible 可能性较小，通常不能以日作主有主语。Probable 可能性较大，通常不能以日作做主语。常用句式有it is possible/probable (for sb ) to do sth 和it is possible/probable that ... 。而likely不但可以以it 作形式主语，用于上面提到的两个句式，还可以用在以人作主语的句式当中。例如: It is possible/probable/likely for her to win the competition 她很可能赢得这次竞赛。 He is very likely to show up on time, for he is always punctual. 他很有可能会按时到达，因为他一向守时。 Part 2 A very useful conjunction-- not only...but also Not only...but also 是一个非常有用的连词，很多学生喜欢使用它，但是相当一部分同学使用不当。让我们研究一下它的使用规则吧。 1. Not only... but also ...用于连接两个并列的成分。 当not only ...but also... 连接两个分句，且not only 位于所在分句的句首时，该分句要部分倒装。例如: Not only do they need time,but they are also short of care. 他们不但需要时间，好缺少关爱。 Not only is he a professor but he is also a specialist in this field. 他不但是个教授，而且是这个领域的专家。 2. not only...but also...连接两个名词性成分作主语时，谓语动词的数与距其最近的主语部分保持一致。例如： Not only his students but also the teacher himself is going to attend Xiao Ming’s birthday party. 不仅同学们而且他们的老师本人也将参加小明的生日聚会。 Not only the child but his parents are enjoying the games. 这个孩子和他的父母都喜欢这些游戏。 Part 3 sentence structure It + be +过去分词+ that 从句 此句式中常用的过去分词有： said, told ,known, reported,recorded, thought, believed,considered, announced, expected 等。It 作形式主语，that 引导的从句为真正的主语， that 仅起连接作用，无实际含义，在从句中也不担任句子成分。例如： It is reported that China has made greater progress in the past 9 months this year. 据报道中国本年度前9个月取得了更加长足的进步。 It is reported that the temperature would decline sharply in one or two days. 据报道，近一两天气温将显著下降。 Part 4 Grammar 定语从句 关系代词 who whom whose that which 关系代词引导定语从句，并在定语从句中作主语、宾语、表语、定语等。其中，who whom whose that 指人，that which 指物。例如： He who does not reach the Great Wall is not a true man. 不到长城非好汉。 The man whom you talked to just now is my classmate. 刚才和你说话的那个人是我的同学。 He is the boy whose father is a professor in Qingdao Univers
