Lesson Plan for Unit2 Travelling Around Reading and Thinking: Explore Peru 张冬梅 Analysis of Teaching Material This lesson is reading and thinking, which involves the theme and many new words of this unit and get students prepared for the following lessons of this unit. The two texts are of different types, so they are different in content, purpose and language. They are are not long, and except for the proper nouns, the language is easy to understand. Analysis of the Students The students are in Senior One, so they may not have a large vocabulary and still need much guidance in reading strategies. To express themselves properly in English, they need more help and preparations. Also, they may be shy and afraid of making mistakes in English class. Teaching Objectives By the end of this lesson, students will be able to: 1. Learn how to analyze a text by finding out what, why and how and sort out information efficiently; 2. Recognize the type of the texts by looking through titles, pictures, charts and any other information; 3. Master the language features of an encyclopedia and a brochure; 4. Compare things with a table and cultivate critical thinking; 5. Know about Peru and the famous attractions to broaden horizons; 6. Express themselves properly with expressions they’ve learned (eg.accommodation, unique, especially amazing is..., admire...). Important Point and Difficult Point Important point: Guide the students to analyze a text by finding out what, why and how; Difficult point: Enable the students to appreciate the language features of the brochure.
