Generally speaking, Students in Grade 7 are quite active and willing to express their ideas in class. Besides, they are interested in future development and curious about space trips. However, some students are not confident to speak English in class due to weakness as well as shyness to express themselves. What’s more, students do not have enough background information about space trips. To conclude, it’s a challenging task. Analysis of teaching material The topic of Book 7 Unit 5 focuses on space. Ss learn vocabulary on space and read about space trips. A Trip to Space is a diary written by a student called Jerry. In the text, there are frequent usages of simple future tense. Besides, the text is clearly-organized with emphasis on the second paragraph. It is helpful to draw mind maps to work out the structure and remember detailed information. At the end of the text, students are encouraged to continue Jerry’s trip to space. Therefore, it is reasonable to combine simple future tense and Ss’ imagination in a group report. Teaching aims 1. On knowlege and skill level, Ss learn new words and read a diary about space trip. 2. On strategy level, Ss develop reading strategies and draw mind maps and continue the text by making a group speech. 3. On moral and value level, Ss are aware of the spirit of exploration and feel proud of our motherland.
