Dreaming of being a catcher
If you feel the pain of growing up, ‘The Catcher in the Rye’ is a good book to read.
The Catcher in the Rye (《麦田里的守望者》), by US writer J. D. Salinger, tells the story of Holden Caulfield. Caulfield is a 16-year-old boy. He faces problems that come with growing up. It gives us an honest look at teenage confusion and loneliness .
It’s very interesting to see Caulfield’s view of the world. He dreams of being a “catcher in the rye” – someone who saves children from falling off a cliff (悬崖). I think this shows his fear of growing up. I understand this feeling because sometimes I also wish life could be easier.
I love the words in the book. Salinger writes in a direct way. This makes Caufield feel real to me.
In the end, he decides to go to a new school and seems more hopeful about the future. It’s a story about pain, but also about hope.
