单元话题阅读理解练习

(2022秋·广西南宁·高一南宁市邕宁高级中学校考阶段练习)World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty announced her retirement (宣布退役) from tennis at the age of 25 on Wednesday.

“I’m so happy and I’m so ready. I just know at the moment this is right,” Barty said in a video posted on her Instagram account.

The Australian star is retiring not only as she holds the top title for women’s tennis, but also just two months after she won the Australian Open. About six months earlier, she won the title at Wimbledon.

That Wimbledon win was a pivotal moment that led up to her decision to retire after working so hard for the goal. “To win Wimbledon was my dream, the one, true dream that I wanted in tennis, but it changed me a lot,” she said in a video. “I felt at that moment it was time to follow other dreams.”

Still, Barty said, after victory of Wimbledon, “There was just a little part of me that wasn’t quite satisfied.” That feeling was answered, she said, by being able to bring it home at the Australian Open, which she called “my perfect way” to celebrate her career (事业).

In order to compete around the world, she lived away from home for some six months to avoid having to quarantine (隔离) reentering Australia, which would have influenced her training. She often spoke during the whole season about how difficult it was to be away from home—and how important it was for her to be able to return and win in Australia.

This is not Barty’s first time leaving tennis, although she said in her Wednesday announcement this time felt different. In 2014, after succeeding at the junior level, she left the sport to travel less and spend more time with her family. She changed to playing cricket (板球运动) before returning to tennis in 2016.

Ash Barty said that after her retirement her first act would be giving back to the community: “I have always wanted to have the time to do more in other ways and now I have that chance. That is what lights me up inside.” Barty said she wanted to help provide more chances for other Australians to become players at a young age.

(2023春·江苏盐城·高一盐城市大丰区新丰中学校联考期中)When people think about improving their physical fitness, they often neglect (忽视) balance. Good balance is a necessary part of being physically fit and key to living a long life, according to a research. It’s important for everyone, no matter your age.

Older adults are most affected by poor balance. Falls are the leading cause of injury and death for those 65 and older, with nearly 30% in this age group reporting at least one fall in 2018, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But younger adults frequently fall down, too.

Forty-eight percent of young adults reported falling at least once during one 16-week study. The falls most commonly happened during sports activities, with women in the study reporting more falls and fall-related injuries than men.

Falls within the previous two years were reported by 18% of young adults (ages 20 to 45) in another study published in the journal BMC Public Health. That figure (数据) compared with 21% of middle-aged adults (46 to 65) reporting falls and 35% of those over 65. While falls among young adults were often connected with sports, falls by the middle-aged group were typically related to health problems and physical changes.

Many factors (因素) can affect your balance outside of age, such as vision changes, brain injuries, overweight and a general lack of physical fitness. Even if you have no risk factors, simply neglecting to work regularly on your balance will result in increased instability (不稳定性).

“Our body is conditioned to lose what we don’t regularly use and practice, and balance is no different,” said a researcher.

5.What role does a good balance play in our lives?

A.It helps us live a healthy and long life.

B.It enables us to build a perfect shape.

C.It protects us from getting seriously sick.

D.It has the power to make us look young.

6.How does the author show the research results?

A.By having a discussion. B.By giving a list of figures.page number 1

(2023春·浙江杭州·高一期中)As this year’s ski season got underway, Liu Zhihua joined the crowd at a ski resort and glided fluently down the piste(滑雪道). With only a brief break, she took a quick turn, got onto a chairlift and was ready for another round.

Liu has become a star at the resort in Urumqi. Dressed in her baby blue suit and white helmet, she blends in with the other ski enthusiasts. But in fact, she is the resort’s oldest skier, at age 87. Though a fluent skier now, Liu only took up the sport when she was 72. Up until then, like many old people, she would spend her days taking care of her grandchildren, watching TV or playing mahjong. Encouraged by her children, Liu got on the piste for the very first time in 2007.

“The first day was not easy. My waist and legs ached. But in the following days, I was able to walk on the skis,” Liu recalls. “After conquering the fear of falling, I became increasingly interested in it and got addicted as time passed.” Starting on the beginner slopes, Liu gradually advanced to intermediate runs, and has even got onto the advanced ones. “I’ve taken part in a competition twice. I didn’t do it for a medal. Finishing the competition without falling is enough for me,” she says. When asked about the difficulties she had encountered during her years of skiing, Liu recalls that she fell over while going down a slope due to a lack of experience. “But skill comes from practice. Just get used to it,” she says.

For Liu, skiing is also a way to keep herself young and lively. Despite being the oldest ski enthusiast at the resort, she thinks she is just as vigorous as younger skiers. “No one can tell your age when everyone’s in a ski suit and with snow caps and goggles on,” says Liu with a smile. “Health and happiness are the two things that doing sports. has brought to me,” she says. “I don’t think age has much to do with my mindset. Old or young, I have been brave and optimistic.”
