Have students answer the two questions on page 30. (1)Do you think there are “friends for life”? Why or why not? Yes, I do. I know some of my parents’ friends who have been friends with my parents since primary school and they are still the best of friends. They all grew up in the same neighbourhood and went to the same schools. Even if they do not see or talk to each other often now, they know each other so well and can rely on each other no matter what happens. I believe friends of this type will remain friends for life. (2)Would you turn to online communities for advice about maintaining friendships? Why or why not? I don’t think I would because I don’t like to share my personal problems online. I think it is better to speak to my friends or ask my parents for advice if something is wrong. Sharing personal problems online can lead to more problems such as the invasion of your privacy by people you don’t know. It could be embarrassing and even quite dangerous. 批　注 2. Have students predict the content of the forum exchange according to the title. What could “on the rocks” possibly mean? How can you tell that? The title indicates that the friendship may be in trouble because “Friendship” is torn apart and the latter half of the title is “please advise!” 3. Have students read the forum exchange to finish A1 and A2 on page 32. A1: (1) Amy’s friend was out having fun with someone else. (2) Amy received a horrible surprise.
