Unit 5 Working the land Period 1 Reading and thinking I. Analysis of text 1. Theme: people & society, get to know an agricultural scientist 2. Genre: narration 3. Analysis of the text This lesson is the first lesson of unit 5 and is a reading lesson. It is a narration about famous scientist-Yuan longping, the “father of hybrid rice”. The passage can be divided to three parts, the first part shows Yuan’s status: famous scientist, “father of hybrid rice”, and farmer. Part 2 shows Yuan’s decision to study agriculture, and explain the reason. Part 3 is comprised of four paragraphs, and shows Yuan’s contributions, Yuan found hybrid rice, which has a higher yield than conventional rice. II. Analysis of students 1. Language ability a. Class 5 have a poor English foundation, but they have already mastered some basic words and expressions, can do some activities with English. a. They basically possess certain computer operation knowledge and the ability to search and consult knowledge. b. Most of them have high learning enthusiasm, performance desire and cooperation spirit. 2. Thinking ability Most of them can sort out and summarize information and express their ideas. 3.
