1.Analysis of Materials
· Based on the concept of “big ideas” from Wynne Harlen (Gu, 2021), a unit should be considered as a whole. Art is the topic of this unit, in which the first two sessions are about Western art and the other two sessions are about Chinese art. Hence, cross-cultural communication might be one of the significant features.
· In this session of Reading and Thinking, an informative essay regarding the four stages in Western art is given, which includes “The Middle Ages”, “The Renaissance”, “Impressionism” and “Modern Art”.
· In terms of language, the past tense and present tense are mostly adopted. With the use of passive voice and non-predicate verbs, the objective attitude of the writer is clearly showed. Lots of representative artists and works are introduced as examples for the characteristics of each stage.
· Words related to art, especially painting, are worthy of notice, e.g. “impressionism”, “perspectives”, “convey”, “shadow”, “realistic”, “abstract” etc..
2.Analysis of Students
