When I was a kid,I would go up to my parents and say,"I want to be
just like that person when I'm grown up!"My parents would just look
down at me and smile. My mom would always say,"Do what you think
will make you happy and proud.Try and follow your dream."
I always tried to stay true to that, but as I got older,I decided that I
wanted to be something else. When you find something that you truly
want to be,but people around you think that you are not able to do it,it
hurts. When I was in seventh grade,I decided that I wanted to join the
army and be a soldier.I wanted to serve our country and protect our
country.another clarinet player,Mike.Mike and I shared the same dream
becoming soldiers!
But I barely told anyone what I wanted to be.It was because I was
afraid that people would laugh at me or would give me
that"you-must-be-going-crazy"look.However,finally one day when I
was in middle school,I told my secret dream to others. That day,I was
putting away my clarinet(单簧管)after a long practice for a music
contest. My band director, whom some high school students called Mr.S,
was talking to.
Mr.S.was giving advice to him.I didn't know why I did this,but I
spoke up and said that I wanted to be asoldier, too. Both Mr.S.and Mike
gave me the look I had always been fearing,"I don't think you can be a
soldier,Nicole.Soldiers have to be tough and quick,"Mike told me."You
are just too thin and appear so fragile.I bet a big wind can carry you into
the sky.
I stared at him for a long time and then lowered my head.I didn't
reply but I was angry.I couldn't believe that he was telling me this. When
the bell rang,I stormed out of the room.I didn't cry.I was heartbroken,
though. It was like my dream had been torn apart and thrown away.
Paragraph 1:When I got home,I walked slowly to my room.
