One day, his best friend, Bassanio, wanted to borrow a lot of money to travel to Belmont to court Portia, but Antonio had invested all his money in his ships and borrowed from the moneylender Shylock, who wrote a contract: if Antonio didn’t pay the money without any interest three months later, he might receive one pound of his flesh instead. 在威尼斯有一位富商叫安东尼奥。一天，他的好朋友，巴萨尼奥，想借一笔钱去贝尔蒙特向鲍西亚求婚，但是安东尼奥已将他的钱都投资到轮船上了，就向放债者夏洛克借钱，夏洛克写了一份合同：如果安东尼奥在三个月后不能偿还这笔无息的钱的话，夏洛克可以得到一磅他身上的肉。 Story Overview When Shylock’s daughter Jessica ran away from home with his money and jewels, he became furious. Meanwhile, Antonio’s ship and its cargo sank and he could not return his debt. Shylock went to the court of Venice to claim the execution of his deal. To save Antonio’s life, Portia was disguised as a judge to agree to Shylock’s request first, but demanded that Shylock could only take a pound of flesh but not one drop of his blood. Otherwise, Shylock lose all his property. Shylock couldn’t do it.
