Life
is
like
potato
salad.
When
its
shared,
it
becomes
a
picnic.
When
my
three
children
were
young,
my
husband,
Roy,
and
I
were
very
1
even
at
weekends.
“Can
we
go
on
a
picnic,
Mum?”
my
six-
year-old
daughter,
Becky,
begged.
“Please.”
I
had
said
no
so
many
times,
and
I
2
the
usual
Saturday
morning
chores
could
wait.
To
her
surprise,
I
agreed.
I
prepared
a
few
sandwiches
and
filed
a
cooler
with
ice
and
drinks
and
caled
Roy
3 .
My
eleven-year-old
twin
sons
put
the
cooler
and
the
picnic
basket
in
the
trunk
and
we
went
to
spend
some
4
time
together
as
a
family.
Just
as
I
was
getting
the
lunch
out
on
the
table,
Roy
arrived
5 .
That
was
one
of
the
happiest
meals
we
had
ever
6
together.
The
meal
was
filed
with
laughter.
We
felt
the
closeness
that
had
been
hidden
by
7
and
school
duties
for
so
many
months.
That
night
as
our
8
went
to
bed,
I
kissed
their
cheeks
and
realized
what
a
wonderful
life
I
had.
As
I
walked
out
of
the
room,
it
dawned
on
me
that
even
the
busiest
9
could
become
a
picnic
when
its
shared
with
the
ones
you
love.
Even
though
the
kids
have
now
grown
up
and
10
from
home,
I
can
stil
remember
how
I
felt
that
day
while
sitting
at
the
picnic
table.
