Passage One
Pete liked playing table football. His parents and teachers said he didn't know how to lose. If there was a game Pete wasn't good at, he wouldn't play it. But you couldn't stop him playing kind of things he was good at, like table football. Albert was a new kid at Pete's school. Albert was a cracking table football player, and soon they challenged each other to a game. Pete prepared for the match for a long time. Albert, on the other hand, walked about the whole time, smiling and telling jokes. But on the football table, Albert scored goals again and again. Pete changed the scoreboard. In this way, Pete won. “It's fun. We should play again some other time,” said Albert happily. But, that night, Pete didn't feel so happy. The next day Pete saw Albert playing basketball. He lost time after time. But that happy smile never left his face. Pete began learning that to enjoy a game you didn't have to have a scoreboard. What you had to do was to enjoy the game, trying to do well.
