(2023·江苏扬州·统考一模)Making time for tea
These days, milk tea shops can be seen everywhere. However, it’s not easy to find one run by high school students.
Wu Jiawei, 16, is the owner of a milk tea shop in Maoming, Guangdong province. The Senior 2 student has run the shop for half a year and his milk tea is loved by students. The average daily turnover (营业额) is more than 1,000 yuan.
Wu got the idea after gaining lots of local followers online from doing a casual live stream (直播). He wanted to make these followers potential (潜在的) customers and start something big. His parents have run a restaurant since he was little, giving him natural exposure (接触) to business management.
Wu used specific ways to attract students. For example, the price of a cup of milk tea at Wu’s shop is around 10 percent lower than the drinks at others. Also, Wu’s shop opens at 4 p. m. on weekdays, right after school. Although he has the stress of balancing study and work, this exactly meets students’ needs.
He hired a friend who is studying at a vocational (职业的) school to manage the shop. “My customers love him because he is also a teenager and can chat with them about study and life,” Wu said. “My idea of good service is being personal and enthusiastic (热情的).”
Wu also runs self-media accounts, like Douyin and Xiaohongshu, to improve his business. He used titles like “a 16-year-old high school student opens his own shop” to catch people’s attention.
In the future, Wu wants to make his brand a chain store in China. He wants to make innovations (创新) in both taste and packaging, and he says this will be his lifelong career.
