I don't believe they allow people to swim in the lake. 2.由从属连词 whether, if 引导的宾语从句 (1)①由一般疑问句变来时，表疑问； ②译为 “是否”，表不确定，不能省略。 ③常用在ask, wonder, could you tell me等词之后； Did he go to Hefei? + Mary asked me that. Mary asked me if he went to Hefei. Ask him it. + Can he come on time? Ask him whether (if) he can come on time. (2)只能用 whether不能用 if 的情况 ①. 在介词后面： 我正在思考我们是否应该去游泳。 I’m thinking of whether we should go swimming. ②. 与动词不定式连用（whether to do sth). 我不知道是否要立刻去那。 I don’t know whether to go there at once. ③.当与or not连用，或用or 提出两种选择时: 我不知道他是否有空。 I don’t know whether he’s free or not. ④作主语放句首只能用whether Whether he will come is not decided.
