The pay phone is next to the library. 该句为there be句型的一般疑问句（详见语法部分）。 【next to】表示方位的介词短语，意为“在......旁边，贴近，紧靠”，相当于at the side of...，其后常接表示场所、顺序的词。 例：The post office is next to the school. 【辨析】next to与near 【next to】介词短语，意为“在......旁边，贴近，紧靠”。例：Come and sit next to me. 【near】作介词，意为“在......的附近”； 作形容词，意为“近”，反义词是far，意为“远”。 例：Nanjing is near Shanghai . His house is very near. 练：①他家附近有一家剧院。There is a theater his home. ②书店旁边的那幢新楼是一家电影院。 The new building the bookstore is a cinema. 2、 The pay phone is across from the library. 【across】介词，意为“横穿”，通常与street,road,river等搭配。 例：I went across the road.=I crossed the road. I swam across the Yangtze River 20 years ago. 【across from】介词短语，意为“在......对面，在......的对过”，后接表示地点的名词或代词，相当于on the other side of或opposite. 例：The shop is across from the bank. =The shop is on the other side of the bank. =The shop is opposite the bank. 【across与 through】 across表示动作是在物体的表面上进行的，强调从一端到另一端，如过河、过桥、过马路等。through表示动作是在某一物体的内部空间进行的，如穿过门、森林、隧道、浓雾等。 例：The river runs through our city.
