There are many famous paintings in art history. To let students feel a closer connection to them, Beijing Shangdi Experimental School held an activity called “Famous Painting Cosplay”.
Junior 1 students chose one painting to imitate (模仿). They needed to dress up and use things in their houses as props (道具). Some even made props by hand.
Wen Sibo imitated Boy With a Pipe painted by Spanish painter Pablo Picasso. The boy in the painting wears a garland (花环) of flowers on his head, so Wen made a garland as well. “I drew flowers on colored paper and cut them out to make the garland. I felt great after making it,” said Wen.
Fan Xiang invited her sister to imitate The Arnolfini Portrait, a painting by the Netherlandish painter Jan van Eyck. “I played the husband (丈夫) and my sister played the wife,” said Fan. “The wife is pregnant (怀孕的), so we put a pillow around my sister’s belly. It was so funny! We laughed every time we looked in the mirror. The activity brought a lot of joy to our boring family life.”
“A philosopher (哲学家) once said that art teaches us to face difficulties in life. In this activity, we see how beautiful and creative (有创意的) things make our life better,” Fan said.
