Although it may seem magical, it is actually a powerful cocktail of neurotransmitters that produces a sense of euphoria known as limerence. The person of interest becomes the focus of our attention, and we fixate our thoughts on them from 85 to 100 percent of the time. Both men and women experience signs of love at first sight, such as trembling, feeling flushed, stammering, or fearing emotional control. Men’s faces become flushed, their heartbeat increases, pupils dilate, and muscles stiffen. Females experience tingling palms, shallow breathing, and dilated pupils. Phenylethylamine (PEA) is the primary neurotransmitter responsible for producing the feeling of euphoria in love.
