About polar bears
Paws can be 12 inches (30cm) across.
Polar bears are one of the largest land predators
(捕食者) in the whole world.
Males may weigh as much as a small car---over
1,700 pounds (770kgs).
Male bears are as long as normal room height
from floor to ceiling.
Polar bears have an acute sense of smell.
They can pick up a scent from over 30 kilometers
away, and can detect the presence of seals under
three feet of snow and ice.
In Churchill, Canada, polar bears come to town
in fall, looking for food.
