Then the two men disappeared down the hill in the known direction of a distant wooden house. Night came, but the two men did not return. Tom sat close to his companion, the campfire. Feeling a bit scared, Tom rose slowly to his feet. His cigarette dropped from his mouth and his knees shook with fear. “Hah!” he shouted in a loud voice in the hope of scaring his opponent away.
