Instructional design for Unit 3 Reading Protect The Earth 1. Analysis of Content The selected text of this lesson is taken from Unit 3, Grade 7( 1st semester) English Textbook by Shanghai Educational Publishing House. It’s a poster about things and problems on Earth and aims to strength students' awareness of protecting the Earth. 2. Analysis of Students Most students of this class are active learners with good learning habits and eager to speak and share. Relatively speaking, many of them have a good command of English. As Grade 7 students, they have already acquired some basic knowledge about the topic-environmental protection. Therefore, most of them will be able to understand the detailed information of the passage easily while they still need the teacher to lead them to identify the text type as well as analyse the structure of the text. 3. Teaching Aims At the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1) master the words and expressions such as field, Earth, protect, pollution, energy, some... some..., provide with, stop doing. 2) identify the text type and analyse the structure and detailed information of the text. 3) get the main idea as well as details of the poster and have a better understanding of the Earth. 4) develop reading strategies and skills like predicting, skimming, scanning, finding out topic sentences and summarizing paragraphs. 5) strength students' awareness of protecting the Earth and encourage them to protect the Earth from doing small things. 4. Important Points and Difficult Points 1) Identify the text type, analyse the structure and detailed information of the text and have a profound understanding about the text. 2) Some students may find it difficult to analyse the structure of the text by means of the mind map and to express some new ideas about protecting the Earth. 5.
