It looks like a box, which is how it got its name. It can grow to be about 30 centimetres wide and its tentacles are over 100 centimetres long. Every tentacle has thousands of stings with sharp points. Every year hundreds of people are stung by the box jellyfish and many die. Its poison is one of the deadliest in the animal world and can stop the human heart from beating within a few minutes. A box jellyfish can carry enough poison to kill 50 people. Since 1954, nearly 6,000 people have died from the sting of the box jellyfish. The box jellyfish is so dangerous that swimmers do not go to many Australian beaches between November and May when the box jellyfish is around. They are very difficult to see in the water, so often people do not see them until it is too late. One of the best treatments for a sting is to put vinegar on it. This simple treatment has helped to save many people's lives. Most beaches in Australia have supplies of medicines to treat people who have been stung. So if you go to Australia, watch out for box jellyfish! 1 2 3 4 5 6 Skim for structure Para.1 Para.2 Para.3 Para.4 Para.5 Para.6 introduction looks quality treatment for a sting advice One of the world's deadliest animal
