Wang was stopped at the gates of the resort in January this year after the security guard found food inside her backpack. The Walt Disney Company, however, stuck to its guns, claiming that the outside food ban is the standard in theme parks across China. In what appears to be a small mercy, Disneyland said the guests are welcome to eat their own food in the rest area outside the park. Chinese media have accused Disney of double standards, saying that while Shanghai Disney has banned outside food, alcohol and nonalcoholic beverages over 600 milliliters inside the park since November 2017, the company doesn’t follow the same policy in its US or European parks. Meanwhile, the incident has kicked up a social media storm in China. Disney’s decision to deny guests the right to bring their own food, coupled with the mark-up prices of refreshments inside the park, has apparently not gone down well with the netizens. The female student approached the People's Court of Pudong New Area to rescind the food ban.
