Adverbial clauses 状语修饰动词、形容词、副词或整个句子。当状语为句子时即为状语从句,一般可以用来表示时间、地点、原因、结果等概念。 初中的学习中,关于状语从句有两点要注意:一是状语从句中连词的选用,二是条件状语从句中的时态。 1. 状语从句中连词的选用。 状语从句中连词的选用是由句子所表达的逻辑意义决定的。只要知道各种连词的意思和功能就能正确使用。 (1) 时间状语从句连词:when, while, as, before, after, until, as soon as 等。 e.g. My father took the photos when we lived in Hong Kong. You’re not going out until you’ve finished this. until/till引导时间状语从句,意为“直到……” 。当主句的谓语动词是延续性动词,主句常用肯定形式; 当主句的谓语动词是短暂性动词时,主句常用否定形式。not…until…意为“直到……才……”。 e.g. I’ll stay here until/till you come back. He didn’t go to bed until/till he finished his homework. (2) 地点状语从句连词:where e.g. We must camp where we can get water. (3) 条件状语从句连词:if, unless, as long as, once e.g. If he leaves the vegetables with the goat, the goat will eat them. Nobody will get anything unless they ask for it. You may borrow this book as long as you keep it clean. (4) 比较状语从句连词:than, as e.g. The cost of the repairs was a lot of cheaper than I thought. (5) 目的状语从句连词:so that, in order that e.g. I’ve brought some photos so that you can see what Britain looks like. (6) 原因状语从句连词:because, since, as e.g. Mark could not come because he had to work. As he was in a hurry, Jack left his bag home. (7) 结果状语从句连词:so … that … e.g. He got up so late that he missed the first train. (8) 让步状语从句连词:although, though, even if/though e.g. Although the car is old, it still runs well.
