Classroom rules are important for all students—even middle school and high school students. Start your school year or even your lessons with a discussion on the rules. Students are more likely to follow the rules when they understand the reasons for them. For this reason, it is important to explain why you have made certain rules.
Two helpful teaching ways—when setting rules for middle school and high school students are:◆Make rules that say what to do instead of saying what not to do.
◆Start every rule with an action word (verb).
Perhaps a better way to go about writing classroom rules is to do it democratically（民主地）.
Get your class together and ask them what rules they want to see in their classroom. I have found that young people are surprisingly conservative (保守的) about the rules. They’ll offer some tough and powerful (强硬而有力的) rules that they all must follow.
By getting students to come up with the rules together, they are setting their own personal rules. It makes them more accountable (有责任的) not only to yourself as the teacher, but also to themselves.
