Probably more food is consumed(消费)during the New Year celebrations than any other time of the year.Vast amounts of traditional food are prepared for family and friends,as well as those close to us who have died.On New Year’s Day,the Chinese family will eat a vegetarian⑤ dish called Zhai(斋).Although the various ingredients(烹调用的原料)in Zhai are root vegetables or fibrous vegetables,many people attribute(归因于)various superstitious(迷信)aspects to them.
Other foods include a whole fish,to represent togetherness and abundance(充裕,丰富),and a chicken for prosperity(繁荣昌盛).The chicken must be presented with a head,tail and feet to symbolize completeness.Noodles should be uncut,as they represent a long life.
