牛津英语译林版 8下 期中复习专项训练 – 回答问题
A
We all have a picture of home in our minds. For me, it’s a small town with my high school right down the street, about 15 minutes’ walk from my home. But recently my hometown surprised me.
I never realized how much I could do in my hometown. I could walk to the field to pick some wild flowers, do some shopping in the market and swim in the river. I used to picture home as this quiet town where everyone knew everyone, but now everything is changing back home. For example, my high school was not so good because many things were outside. Students had to walk outside in order to go into another building. It was really terrible when it rained. But it was so much fun when the parking lot became a “lake”. Now my high school is completely indoors. I understand why they decided to do this, because safety of students is very important.
In some ways, I have changed too. I used to be a little girl who was shy. But now I have become more outgoing. It’s true that the town I grew up in is changing for the better, just like me. I’ll always remember what my hometown used to be like. And I believe there will be more changes in the future.

Yao Yao, 15, loves English. She reads English news on the Internet every day and often tries to talk with foreigners. “The most popular phrase in my class is ‘Whoops!’ Many of us want to study abroad and find out more about English language culture,” said the girl.
However, for Yao’s English teacher, 55-year-old Bin Changzheng, studying English was a different story.
Bin remembered she first studied English in 1977. “We spent nearly half a year learning the 26 letters and the phonetic symbols (音标) . That really bored me,” said the teacher.
