① Daye City in Hubei Province has created a special way to stop people from jaywalking (乱穿马路).
② Some yellow posts (标 杆) are set at the two sides of the crossings. The posts are equipped with a facial recognition system (脸部识别系统). When people are trying to run red lights, the posts will spray (喷洒) water on them. Any jaywalking person's face will be shown on a large display screen near the crossing.
③ The yellow posts can not only spray water but also remind people when the traffic lights are changing. “It is now a green light. Please cross the road and be careful.” When the light turns red, the posts will say, “You are running red lights now. Please do not cross; it is dangerous.”
④ “This is a good idea! It can stop people from jaywalking. Hopefully, it can also help prevent traffic accidents in the future,” a traffic expert said.
⑤ Traffic police officers say that the system is still running as a test. The government will assess (评估) the results and decide whether or not to use it in the whole city.
