Some researchers believe, for example, that genetic changes are responsible for many common diseases. While no one doubts the advantages of gene mapping, it is also true that there is a dark side to all these knowledge. As with all scientific advances, the possibility exists that knowledge would be used to violate basic human rights. For example, you might be denied a job or a chance to move up in the company, because your genetic map indicates that you have a high probability of contracting a certain disease. The possibility that these would be used as a reason not to hire an employee or promote within the company is what worries people.
