Do you like shopping? How often do you go shopping?
A No-Buy Year
Hannah Louise Poston had a shopping problem and she knew it. She decided to do something about it: for a year, she wouldn’t buy anything beyond her day-to-day needs. She called it a “no-buy year”.
In the past, Poston usually spent her afternoons shopping for all kinds of things, even if she didn’t need anything. When she had to pay her credit card bill, she would feel worried. During her “no-buy year”, she learned a lot about herself. Poston realized that she used her shopping habit as a way to keep away from certain problems in her life. Thanks to her “no-buy year” plan, Poston was able to start breaking her habit of shopping and she didn’t go shopping as often.
People often find themselves buying more and more things. Shopping for things takes up our time and leaves our wallets empty. If you find yourself having these problems, try a “no-buy year”, or just a “no-buy month”. You might be surprised by the difference it can make.
