I. Analysis of the text
ALONE IN ANTARCTICA is in Unit 17 which is about great women. And this is my third lesson in this unit. In the first and the second lessons, I have dealt with warming up, listening and speaking. And we have learn about some famous women. We also learned to describe people’s appearances, personalities and habits.
This is a reading lesson. The reading passage is based on the description that Helen Thayer gave of her journey at the South Pole. Here are the goals of this lesson:
1. The students should learn to summarize the text and find the general idea of the text.
2. Once they have a clear understanding of the text, they should start looking at the contents of the reading from different perspectives.
3. The students should learn from Helen Thayer. They should be ready to overcome difficulties and learn to solve problems alone. They should be brave and strong, like Thayer. They should also learn to venture and explore.
II. Analysis of the students
The students are very interested in adventure travel and the scenery and animals of the Poles. And they know the weather and circumstances are very hard in Antarctica. So they may be interested in this lesson and want to know how Helen Thayer goes on with her journey.
