It’s easy to fall into bad habits with diet and exercise. And once you get weight, it is really hard to lose it. Martha Elizondo of Texas, USA found herself in this situation.
Once she looked at the scale and saw she was 250 pounds. It surprised her, and she knew she had to do something. Martha was afraid that she would face too many problems at once and end up giving up, so she decided to move one small step at a time. Now that she has dropped 100 pounds in a year, she feels she can advise others who are working on their health.
Make small changes to your diet.
Martha used to visit fast-food restaurants very often, sometimes eating a whole pizza by herself. So the first thing she did was cut down on trips to fast-food restaurants. She only allowed herself to visit them twice a week and then even less as her health improved.
Sit less; move more.
A month after starting her diet, Martha began to exercise. At first, she took a walk around her neighborhood. When that became too easy, she picked up running. Now she’s training for a half marathon!
Practice self-acceptance.
One of the most difficult parts of her journey was learning to love her body. “So many people say they will be happy when they reach a certain weight,” Martha said. “But you have to learn to love yourself at every weight. Self-love helps you get to the next step.”
