A Concert in the Hospital
When Amanda Coley couldn’t make it to a Backstreet Boys’ concert, her nurses brought the concert to her.
Amanda and her sister, Maggie Kingston, are huge fans of Backstreet Boys. They had been looking forward to going to the band’s show in Atlanta, USA this August. But three weeks before the concert, Amanda, the 36-year-old mom of four learned she had leukemia (白血病). She thought it was the end of her dream of seeing the boy band live.
Amanda then started her treatment (治疗) in the hospital. Maggie wanted to do something special for her, so she teamed up with Amanda’s son, Mason, and a friend of Amanda to organize a small surprise party in her hospital room. Mason handed out invitations to many nurses. He just wanted them to stop by and say hi.
But the nurses had a better plan. A group of them danced into Amanda’s room, singing songs by the famous band. They performed three songs as Amanda sang along. “I was crying! We didn’t expect it,” Maggie said. “Amanda danced with them! She said it was really cool. Happy tears (眼泪) ran down her face.”
Maggie shared the video of the heart-warming moment on her Facebook, and it has been watched thousands of times. The video even got the attention of Backstreet Boys’ member Nick Carter. He wrote online that the band missed Amanda at the concert and wished her all the best. Of course, Maggie and Amanda were both excited when they read the words! “We were over the moon,” Maggie said. “The message was the icing (糖霜) on the cake after the party for Amanda.”
