Helping Others is a kind of Happiness

Once there was a rich man in a village, he never helped others. People in the village didn't like him. The rich man knew that, so he often said to others, ＂I will give you all my things after I die.＂ He thought everyone would be happy, but nobody believed him. The rich man didn't know why.

One day he went for a walk near the lake.① Under a tree he happened to hear a pig and a cow talking.

  The pig said, ＂Everyone likes you, but nobody likes me. Why? After I die, I will give people all the things of my body, but you give only one thing — milk.＂

   The cow said, ＂I give them milk while I'm living, but you don't give them anything before you die.② People don't believe in the future; they believe in the present. If you give while you are living, people will like you. It's quite simple.＂

   ③From that moment on, the rich man did his best to help the poor.

帮助别人是一种快乐

    从前，在一个村庄有一个富人。他从未帮助别人，村里人都不喜欢他。富人知道，所以他常对别人说，＂等我死后我会给你们我所有的东西。＂他以为大家会很高兴，但没有人相信他。这个富人不知道为什么。

   有一天，他去一个湖边散步。在一棵大树下，他碰巧听到一头猪和一头牛在说话。

猪说，＂每个人都喜欢你，但没有人喜欢我，为什么？在我死了之后，我会把我身体中的所有一切都给人们，但你给的只有一件东西——牛奶。＂

老牛说，＂在我活的时候我给他们牛奶，，但你在死前没给他们任何东西。人们不相信未来，他们只相信现在。如果你在活的时候给人们东西，他们就会喜欢你。这很简单。＂

   从那一刻起，这个富人就尽力去帮助穷人了。

Passing the Learning Experience

I have never taken cooking classes. I learned cooking from my mother because she was really interested in teaching me how to cook. The main reason for this was that when my mother got married, she didn’t know how to cook anything, not even an egg.① My grandmother never allowed her to stay in the kitchen when she was cooking.

②My mother did not start to cook until she was twenty five years old. In the beginning, it was very hard for her. Therefore, she had to take cooking classes to prepare our meals. After having that experience she decided to teach me how to cook because she didn’t want me to have the same experience.

I remember when I was seven years old I started to learn cooking from my mother. Sometimes we prepared the meals that my mother already knew how to make, and sometimes we prepare meals from recipes. Thanks to that experience, now I don’t need any help to cook a meal. I can cook for myself or for a group of people; it doesn’t matter. ③I will do the same with my children because I don’t want them to have the same experience as my mother. If one day I am not with them, I want to be sure that they can continue their life without me.
