If you break your arm or have a cold, you go to the doctor for help. But what if the problems are not as easily seen as a broken bone or a runny nose? What if your troubles are with your feelings? This is when a therapist (心理咨询师) steps in.
Xu Mali, 38, works out what people think and feel. She is a licensed therapist at Beijing Tao’s Way Consulting Co Ltd. Her main job is to talk with people and help them understand what is causing their problems so they can feel better.
Xu’s day starts at 9:30 am, then she checks her timetable and begins her work. These can be face to face, on the telephone or on the Internet. She took the job about five years ago, Xu has done about 700 hours of consulting(咨询) work.
Even a therapist needs his or her own “therapist”, or mentor(有经验的导师或顾问), to help ease pressure(减缓压力) and give some advice. Xu says she visits her mentor twice a month.
