Period Five　Grammar & Writing 一、过去完成进行时 1.构成：had been＋现在分词 2.功能 (1)表示过去某个时间之前一直在进行的动作。这个动作可能延续下去，也可能不延续下去。句子中通常有时间状语，有时根据上下文推断，也可不用时间状语。 Becky had been studying French for 3 years before she entered the college. 贝蒂在上大学之前已经学习了3年的法语。 They had been dancing before she entered the room. 在她进入房间之前他们一直在跳舞。 (2)表示反复的动作、企图、情绪或最近的情况等。 The boss had been thinking about the project. 老板一直在考虑这项工程。 Mr.Black had been telling his son about the matter. 布莱克先生一直在和他儿子谈论此事。 (3)表示过去的某个时间点还在进行的动作。 Tom had been swimming in the river for one hour when his mother asked him to go home.汤姆的妈妈让他回家的时候他已经在河里游泳1小时了。 3.需要注意的问题 (1)过去完成进行时表示在过去一段时间内一直在进行的动作，而过去完成时表示在过去的某个时间之前已经完成的动作，在肯定句中它们通常不能互换。 I had cleared up the room，so it was very tidy. 我已经把房间打扫过了，所以很整洁。 I had been clearing up the room，so he had to wait outside. 我一直在打扫房间，所以他不得不在外面等着。 (2)在否定句中通常用过去完成时代替过去完成进行时。 Sam had not played tennis with his classmates for a long time.
