【11题详解】
句意:许多人喜欢生活在大而现代化的城市里,因为那里的生活非常便利。
根据后句“You can easily find big supermarkets, tall buildings, and fast transport.”

Every boy wants to find treasure. And Tom was no different. One summer day Tom told Huck about his idea.
“Where can we look for treasure?” asked Huck.
“It’s hidden on islands, under dead trees, but mostly under the floors in haunted houses.”
So, one Saturday afternoon Tom and his friend went to look for treasure at the haunted house on Cardiff Hill. It was a quiet and lonely place, which made the boys feel very frightened. They entered quietly, and explored downstairs. There were cobwebs (蜘蛛网) everywhere and everything was old and broken. Then they walked upstairs, but there was nothing there. They were just about to go downstairs and start digging when Tom stopped.
“What is it?” said Huck, going white with fright.
“Keep quiet! There’s someone downstairs.”
The boys lay down, looking through the holes in the wooden floor. There were two men downstairs. One was an old Spanish man and the other was dirty. Tom and Huck shook with fear when they heard the Spanish man speak because they found it was Indian Joe.
The dirty man moved a stone near the fireplace and lifted out a bag of money from a robbery. The two boys forgot all their fears when they saw real treasure downstairs.
Then Indian Joe started digging with his knife and hit something. He pulled out a wooden box full of gold coins!
“There’s thousands of dollars in there,” said Indian Joe.
“What will we do with this, Joe? Will we bury it again?” asked his partner.
“No, someone might find it,” said Indian Joe. “Let’s bury it in the number two den.”
Tom and Huck got up as soon as the two men left. They decided to find out where the number two den was.

Sitting for long hours in a classroom is hard for many students. It often makes them feel tired, lose energy, and struggle to focus on their lessons. Teachers always want students to pay attention during class, but keeping young minds active during a long school day can be very challenging. However, an exciting new study shows that taking a short break for quick exercise can help the brain work much better.
Eric Drollette, a sports science researcher at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, studied how short workouts (锻炼) affect student learning. He wanted to find a fast and practical way for students to get active right in the classroom without losing valuable study time.
In his experiment, students took a 9‑minute exercise break right next to their desks. They did high‑intensity interval exercises, such as star jumps, jumping jacks, and high knees. The students worked out hard for 30 seconds and then rested for 30 seconds. They repeated this simple pattern for nine minutes.
After the 9‑minute session, researchers tested the students’ brain activity while they completed attention tasks on computers. The results were surprising. They found that the students’ brains worked more efficiently and accurately after the workout. The quick exercise helped them focus much better on complex tasks without making them feel exhausted or too tired to learn.
Many previous studies tested longer workouts, such as riding exercise bikes or running on running machines for 20 to 30 minutes. However, those long workouts take too much valuable time away from daily classroom teaching. Drollette’s study proved that just nine minutes of fast movement right by the desk is enough to boost brainpower and improve student performance.
In conclusion, you do not need to spend hours in a gym to sharpen your mind. When you struggle to pay attention during a long lesson, standing up and moving around for a few minutes can be the best way to wake up your brain!
32. How did the writer lead in to the topic of short exercises?
A. By describing a problem. B. By asking a question.
C. By telling a story. D. By comparing school numbers.
33. Why did researchers think short 9‑minute workouts are better than traditional 20‑to‑30‑minute workouts?
A. Because long workouts make students feel extremely tired.
B. Because long workouts require expensive bicycles and treadmills.
C. Because long workouts take too much valuable classroom time.
D. Because long workouts are not popular with young students.
34. According to the study, what kind of exercise can help students think better in class?
A. Running on an outdoor track for thirty minutes without stopping.
B. Doing short desk exercises with short rests for nine minutes.
C. Riding an exercise bike in the school gym for twenty minutes.
D. Doing star jumps and high knees outdoors for one full hour.
35. Where can you most probably read this passage?
A. In a science news magazine for students.
B. In a storybook about sports stars.
C. In a travel guide to North Carolina.
D. In a rulebook for school sports games.

In Germany, ceramic (陶瓷的) artists often make a piece of art all by themselves. But in Jingdezhen, German artist Christiane found skilled local craftsmen for every step, from mixing clay (粘土) to preparing glaze (釉). She called Jingdezhen a “treasure box” because she can find everything she needs here.
Jingdezhen is famous for its long porcelain (瓷器) history. Today, thousands of foreign artists live and work here. People call them Yang Jingpiao, or foreign Jingdezhen drifters. The complete chain of workshops helps them make their art easily.
French artist Yann Colleu first came to the city in 2017. He liked the friendly ceramic community very much and returned later to study for a doctorate. Now, he lives in Jingdezhen with his family. Colleu said that Jingdezhen’s porcelain history is not behind museum glass—it is still alive. Local artists and foreign creators help each other, share skills, and improve together.
In 2026, Jingdezhen’s ceramic heritage was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. The city’s unique industry helps artists focus on their creative ideas while local craftsmen handle the technical work. Many programs have invited over 4,300 artists from more than 50 countries. Some artists stay for a short time, but others, like Colleu, decide to stay and build a home here.

Have you ever wondered why you can easily remember a scary dog or a fun birthday party, but forget what you ate for lunch last Tuesday? Scientists say that strong feelings help us remember things better.
Sometimes, our brains connect an exciting event with other small things that happen around the same time. Because of this, we can remember things that we usually forget.
Scientists have a simple idea to explain this. When we see or do something, our brain leaves a small mark on that memory. But this mark can disappear after a few hours. If something exciting happens soon after, the brain will save the earlier memory. It is like putting glue on a paper note before it falls off!
To test this idea, scientists asked over 100 people to look at pictures of animals and simple tools on a computer. Later, the people got points for naming the pictures correctly. Some pictures gave them many points, while others gave only a few points. The next day, scientists tested what the people remembered.
The results were very interesting. People remembered the animals much better when those pictures gave them many points. However, getting more points did not help them remember the tools better. Scientists think our brains connect things more easily when they belong to the same group.
This study can help us in real life. Teachers can make lessons more exciting to help students learn better. Doctors can also use this idea to help people remember happy, normal moments before a sad event.
Scientists still need to do more research. But one thing is clear: an exciting moment can help us remember much more than just that single moment.
Strong feelings help us remember things better. When we see or do something, our brain creates ____54____. But this memory can disappear if nothing exciting happens soon after.
In a study, scientists asked over 100 people to look at pictures and the people got points for right answers. ____55____, while getting high points did not help them remember tools better. Brains connect things easily when they belong to the same group.
The discovery is useful for real life, especially for ____56____. Though scientists still need to do more research, ____57____.
