While on botany journeys, Fisher began to ask questions about the ants that he discovered on the plants he was researching Since the other botanists were unable to identify those ants, Fisher reached out to an ant scientist to gain further knowledge. Then he became an entomologist, or a scientist who studies insects. Soon, Fisher set himself the goal of identifying every species of ant in the world, and he aims to construct a tree of ant species. Fisher, along with his team, has already succeeded in identifying a complete subfamily of ants. It was his ant species tree that led Fisher to Madagascar, an island off the coast of Africa. During his research in Madagascar’s six-month rainy season — which is ideal for observing ants — he endured severe illnesses, and he and his team faced frequent rainstorms, broken bridges, rough roads, and such challenges as pushing cars free of mud. Yet his work in that region has extended far beyond the study of ants. “You cannot preserve a forest when the people living nearby are hungry,” he states, so he sought out methods to assist those individuals. He developed a new method for farming eatable insects, which he then taught to the people of Madagascar. Fisher understands what is required to build a career in the field of science. “To survive as a scientist,” he explains, “you must be motivated, driven, and fully focused.” He also emphasizes that being a good writer is essential, as it allows you to “share your story in an engaging way that will make people want to read your work.” Once Fisher’s species tree is fully completed, it may unlock an entirely new world of ant research. However, two major challenges stand in the way: climate change and human intervention. How can we study ants if their natural habitats are disappearing? Fisher hopes he can interest people in the significance of Earth’s biodiversity. 4. What initially contributed to Fisher’s changing his career? A. His childhood dream of saving ants. B. The aim of creating an ant species tree. C. His experience of studying plants. D. The ant scientist’s encouragement. 5. Which word best describes Fisher’s journey in Madagascar? A. Eventful. B. Debatable. C. Unsuccessful. D. Costly. 6. What does Fisher infer to do? A. Focus on scientific writing. B. Protect the natural ecology. C. Improve farming techniques. D. Learn about ant species’ habitats. 7. What is the author’s main purpose in writing the text? A. To promote Fisher’s ant species tree. B. To explain Fisher’s research methods. C. To introduce Fisher’s career philosophy. D. To outline Fisher’s ant research and contributions. C Researchers report that radiation testing suggests solar cells (电池) made from carbon-based or organic materials could outperform conventional silicon and gallium arsenide (硅和镓砷化物) for generating electricity in space. While previous research focused on how well organic solar cells transformed light to electricity following radiation exposure, the new investigation mainly dug into what happened inside the materials to cause drops in performance. Silicon semiconductors aren’t stable in space because of proton (质子) radiation coming from the sun. The researchers tested organic solar cells with protons because protons are considered the most damaging particles in space for electronic materials. Space missions often rely on gallium arsenide for its high efficiency and resistance to proton damage, yet it costs a lot and, just like silicon, is heavy and rigid. By comparison, organic solar cells are flexible and lightweight, and this research aims to explore the reliability of organic materials since space projects prefer proven and dependable substances. The test found organic solar cells built with small molecules (分子) suffered no harm from protons even after three years of radiation exposure; on the contrary, versions made of complicated branched molecules lost half their working efficiency. “We found protons cleave some of the side chains or break them apart, and that leaves an electron trap which worsens the performance of the latter type of organic solar cells,” says Stephen Forrest, the lead corresponding author of the study. These traps grab onto electrons freed by light hitting the cells, preventing them from flowing to the electrodes that harvest the electricity. “You can heal this damage by heating the solar cells. But we might find ways to fill the traps with other atoms, eliminating this problem,” Forrest adds. It’s possible that sun-facing solar cells could essentially self-heal at temperatures of 100℃ — this warmth is enough to repair the bonds in the lab. But questions remain. For instance, will that repair still take place in space? Is the healing reliable enough for long missions? It may be more straightforward to design the material so that the performance-killing electron traps never appear. 8. What did the new research aim to do? A. Develop radiation protection methods for cells. B. Test light-electricity transformation within cells. C. Look into conventional solar cells’ outer features. D. Find out inner causes of reduced cell performance. 9. What is paragraph 2 mainly about? A. The imaginary ways to raise cell efficiency. B. The comparison of different organic molecules. C. The proton radiation test on organic solar cells. D. The drawbacks of traditional space power materials. 10. What does the underlined word “cleave” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Split. B. Fix. C. Protect. D. Harvest. 11. Why do researchers consider creating new organic solar cell materials? A. To avoid harmful electron traps. B. To speed up lab bond repairing work. C. To raise space temperature to 1,000℃. D. To clear doubts about space self-healing. D Across the flat plateau of AlUla in Saudi Arabia, shades of gray-brown soil are dotted with areas of dark rock — and a clearly defined circle of stones. Unmistakably constructed by humans, this structure, called “standing stone circles” by archaeologists, was built around 7,500 years ago by a people we barely know for a purpose we have long misunderstood. In 2019, archaeologists from the University of Western Australia began excavating (发掘) these standing stone circles. Their initial idea was that these were structures built by Neolithic nomads (新石器时代的游牧民) for some long-forgotten religious practices. However, excavating at multiple sites, they found what turned out to be archaeological pay dirt — domestic rubbish. The remains of discarded animal bones, household tools, and even jewelry, have reclassified the standing stone circles as Neolithic homes. Standing stone circles seem to have sprung up around 5,800 to 5,500 B.C. This coincided with a warmer climate in the region that brought more regular rainfall and a landscape of rich grasses and trees, good conditions for raising cattle and goats. But these were also good conditions for building permanent structures. More abundant vegetation meant less pressure to keep moving the animals to fresh grasslands, which made building homes more worthwhile. This, and the plateau’s abundance of stones, may have encouraged the nomads to stay a while and build. Excavations of these settlements are revealing something of this people’s way of life. They kept cattle and goats for meat, but continued to hunt and gather to expand their diet with hare, fruits and nuts. The many grinding (磨碎) stones found on the sites suggest inhabitants were regularly grinding grains, but these were likely to be gathered rather than farmed. The plateau sites have also revealed tools made with materials from the sandstone valleys and jewelry shaped from shells from the Red Sea — these Neolithic people had a complex culture involving travel and probably exchange. The revelation overturns many of our assumptions about Neolithic AlUla. Here was a people more settled and more civilized than history has given them credit for. Their story is just beginning to be revealed, but already a very different picture of early AIUla is emerging. 12. What did the 2019 excavation finally identify the “standing stone circles” as? A. Religious sites. B. Rubbish stations. C. Domestic buildings. D. Natural wonders. 13. What was a contributing factor in the building of the standing stone circles? A. The worsening climate. B. The richness of plants. C. The desire to raise more animals. D. The need to store goods. 14. What is most likely TRUE about Neolithic people’s way of life in AlUla? A. They planted crops and kept cattle and goats. B. They relied entirely on hunting and gathering for food. C. They had interactions with other groups. D. They made tools and jewelry purely from local materials. 15. What is the purpose of the text? A. To provide some new insights. B. To introduce an ancient population. C. To promote a historical site. D. To argue for some long-held beliefs. Optimism is what we need to stay engaged and keep deeply caring, especially during hard times. Whether you are more optimistic or pessimistic, there are exercises you can do to bring a little more sunshine into your life. Make a daily “ta-da list (成就清单)”. Self-gratitude is an important part of becoming more optimistic. To encourage this positive emotional response, you can use a tool called a “ta-da list”. ___16___ Include all the things you crossed off your to-do list — like launching a big project or doing the laundry. Don’t forget the unexpected or less obvious things too, like remembering to drink enough water. ___17___ The human brain is focused on future. Unfortunately, that means we tend to worry a lot about what might happen, including things that are unlikely or impossible to prevent. To avoid being too stressed, you can find 15 minutes when you have energy and won’t be interrupted. ___18___ With this dedicated time and space secured, you can safely postpone anxious thoughts until your session. Throughout the day, note down any worries that are bothering you, particularly the ones that keep coming back. Then, use your chosen worry time to go down the list and ask yourself if you can control or change the worry. If you can’t, ask yourself if you can let the worry go. Practice daily affirmations (肯定) with the 7/10 rule. If you feel more positively about yourself, you’re able to believe in a better future you. But if you’re choosing affirmations you don’t actually believe, they can be ineffective. Choose a statement you’re at least 70%confident about. ___19___ The more you say something, the more your brain will start to seek out information that confirms it — until something you believed 7/10 becomes something you believe 10/10. ___20___ A. Schedule “worry time”. B. Then work up to the idea you hope to believe. C. It’s a list of all your accomplishments of the day. D. Then, keep building new positive affirmations from there. E. It had always been on his wish list to see this lake, and he wanted us to make the hike to reach it. The trail was a 10-mile round trip, rated as a difficult hike. The moment I heard this, my heart sank, and panic began to set in, as I feared I wouldn’t have the energy to make it to the top. I hadn’t been very active recently and couldn’t shake the belief, that with academic pressure and workload growing heavier, comes a natural decline in energy and motivation. Nonetheless, early the next morning, we set off, eager to make this dream a reality. The difficulty was apparent from the start. The route was steep, and my body protested with every step. About halfway up, we encountered another brother and sister who had decided to turn back, clearly discouraged by the difficulty of the route. I noticed the brother’s disappointed expression, and something in me shifted. I couldn’t bear the thought of giving up. Right then, I made up my mind that I would press on, no matter how tough it got. As we continued on, a surprising thing happened. Instead of focusing on how difficult the hike was, I found myself appreciating the beauty of the surrounding landscape. Each step through the woods felt like a journey into a timeless world, where the heavy burden and stress from study seemed to disappear, replaced by the timeless rhythms of nature. My brother and I chatted as we walked, and I realized how much joy I found in the simple pleasure of his company. What had seemed like an unattainable goal had transformed into a source of personal fulfillment and connection with nature and my brother. However, the hike wasn’t without its challenges. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Finally, after hours of hard work, we made it to the top. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 28届学生第2次学情调研 英语 时量:120分钟 满分:150分 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 做题时,先将答案标在试卷上。 How much is the shirt? 4. C 5. A 6. B 7. Then he became an entomologist, or a scientist who studies insects. 根据第二段“During his research in Madagascar’s six-month rainy season — which is ideal for observing ants — he endured severe illnesses, and he and his team faced frequent rainstorms, broken bridges, rough roads, and such challenges as pushing cars free of mud. 故选A项。 根据最后一段“However, two major challenges stand in the way: climate change and human intervention. How can we study ants if their natural habitats are disappearing? Fisher hopes he can interest people in the significance of Earth’s biodiversity. D 9. C 10. A 11. 根据第一段中的“...the new investigation mainly dug into what happened inside the materials to cause drops in performance(…… 第二段的主旨句为“The researchers tested organic solar cells with protons because protons are considered the most damaging particles in space for electronic materials.(研究人员用质子测试有机太阳能电池,因为质子被认为是太空中对电子材料最具破坏性的粒子。)” 根据画线词“cleave”后面的“or break them apart, and that leaves an electron trap which worsens the performance(或者将它们打断,这就会留下一个电子陷阱,从而降低性能)”可知,画线词与break them apart构成并列选择关系,应含有“劈开、分裂”之意,对应选项中的“Split.”。 根据最后一段中的“It may be more straightforward to design the material so that the performance-killing electron traps never appear.(设计材料时从根源上避免出现损害性能的电子陷阱,或许会是更为直接的方案。)” D Across the flat plateau of AlUla in Saudi Arabia, shades of gray-brown soil are dotted with areas of dark rock — and a clearly defined circle of stones. C 13. B 14. C 15. 由文章第二段中的“The remains of discarded animal bones, household tools, and even jewelry, have reclassified the standing stone circles as Neolithic homes. 由文章第三段中的“This coincided with a warmer climate in the region that brought more regular rainfall and a landscape of rich grasses and trees, good conditions for raising cattle and goats. But these were also good conditions for building permanent structures. More abundant vegetation meant less pressure to keep moving the animals to fresh grasslands, which made building homes more worthwhile. This, and the plateau’s abundance of stones, may have encouraged the nomads to stay a while and build. 由文章第四段中的“The plateau sites have also revealed tools made with materials from the sandstone valleys and jewelry shaped from shells from the Red Sea — these Neolithic people had a complex culture involving travel and probably exchange. 通读全文,尤其是由文章第一段中的“Unmistakably constructed by humans, this structure, called “standing stone circles” by archaeologists, was built around 7, 500 years ago by a people we barely know for a purpose we have long misunderstood. 和最后一段“The revelation overturns many of our assumptions about Neolithic AlUla. Here was a people more settled and more civilized than history has given them credit for. Their story is just beginning to be revealed, but already a very different picture of early AIUla is emerging. 故选A。 Optimism is what we need to stay engaged and keep deeply caring, especially during hard times. E. It’s better to choose affirmations that are as perfect as possible. F. Spend most of your free time thinking about your worries carefully. G. As can be seen in the picture, two figures on the racing track hold different attitudes. One sits still, complaining he has no motivation. On the contrary, the other keeps heading for the finish line, arguing that he doesn’t need motivation. The image reveals a truth. Many of us delay action until we feel motivated. Yet motivation is changeable. Successful people stick to self-discipline: they keep analyzing situations, break down long-term goals into small steps, and adjust their methods continuously as they move forward. From my point of view, action creates motivation. Instead of waiting for inspiration, we should take action right away, and make constant improvements along the journey. From my point of view, action creates motivation. From my point of view, action creates motivation, which is far more lasting and powerful than the fleeting inspiration we wait for. 1】On the contrary, the other keeps heading for the finish line, arguing that he doesn’t need motivation. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 However, the hike wasn’t without its challenges. My legs began to ache, and my breath came in short bursts as the path became more uneven, with loose rocks and roots tripping me up. Despite the fact that my mind tried to convince me to stop and turn back, my resolution was stronger now. The disappointed expression of the brother we encountered was etched in my mind, driving me to clench my teeth to persevere. Every time my legs protested, I reminded myself that with each step, I was growing stronger, both physically and mentally. Finally, after hours of hard work, we made it to the top. The view that greeted us was beyond anything I had imagined. I stood there, taking in the breathtaking scenery. My brother smiled at me, his eyes reflecting pride and joy. It was at that moment that I realized the journey had been just as important as the destination. The hike had tested me in ways I didn’t expect, but it had also shown me how much I was capable of. Together, we had made it, and it felt like a true triumph. 词汇激活 行为类 ①疼痛:ache/hurt ②绊倒:trip/stumble ③遇到:encounter/run into 情绪类 ①失望的:disappointed/upset ②胜利:triumph/victory 【点睛】[高分句型1] The view that greeted us was beyond anything I had imagined.(运用了that引导定语从句) [高分句型2] Every time my legs protested, I reminded myself that with each step, I was growing stronger, both physically and mentally.(运用了that引导宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
