The recent introduction of the interdisciplinary course "Technology and Art"has led to a
heated debate on campus. In my view, the course deserves a place in our timetable rather than being
viewed as a threat.
Admittedly,time is precious for us seniors,but learning is never a zero-sum game.Blending
technology with art,the course trains us to think creatively and from multiple perspectives-abilities
that exams increasingly value. Moreover, designing a digital painting or programming a light show
actually refreshes our minds, making our revision more efficient.Instead of crowding out study, the
course nourishes the very skills and energy that high-score performance demands.
Why not embrace it?
The recent introduction of the interdisciplinary course "Technology and Art"has led to a
heated debate on campus.
As a Senior Three student,I'm worried that the new course may take up precious time for
reviewing core subjects.First, with the College Entrance Examination approaching, every hour counts
Spending two class periods a week on this course means less time for subjects like math and English,
which determine our scores.Second, preparing projects and presentations for the course adds extra
workload, leaving us exhausted and unable to focus on revision.Third, although technology and art are
appealing, they can be explored after the exam.
Therefore,I suggest the school postpone the course until after the College Entrance Examination.

That evening,Li Wei arrived at the clinic, with the application form in hand. Her mother was
carefully weighing dried herbs at the counter. With a deep breath,Li Wei placed the form in front of her,
ready to brace herself for the refusal she had long expected. Her mother wiped her hands on her apron
and picked up the paper. After a moment of careful reading, she signed her name without a word. Then,
she reached under the counter, took out a small sachet, and placed it gently in Li Wei's hand."Keep
this with you,"she said softly."It will help you stay calm."A sense of warmth welled up in Li Wei's
heart, resolving to do her utmost in the competition.
Before stepping onto stage,Li Wei held her mother's lucky sachet()in her pocket. It was
her first time competing on such a major stage.Great panic almost made her forget how to dance.Just
then her mother appeared quietly beside her,"The clinic is my path, but this stage is your journey."Her
words lingered in the air like a blessing.Li Wei breathed in the sachet's calming scent, felt her fear
loosen,and gave her mother's hand a grateful squeeze.Stepping into the lights,Li Wei danced-and
in her movement, two separate dreams converged into a moment of perfect understanding.

根据第一段“Others, such as visitors from abroad, may get only a visitor card on site.(其他人,例如
国外游客,只能现场办理访客卡)”以及流程图“Live, work, study,or pay taxes in New York State?(在纽约州生
下面“No”分支“Apply on site wit讪h photo ID and proof of address(携带带照片的身
Children under 13 need a parent or guardian to complete and sign their applications..(l3
For most professional athletes, such a huge early gap signals unavoidable defeat so
they tend to surrender mentally, choosing to conserve energy rather than waste strength on what seems a lost battle.
Yet Zheng refused to give in..Staying composed and focused,.gradually she turned the
tide, winning seven straight games to secure a hard-fought victory with a final score of 1-6,7-6(3),7-5.(但郑钦文设有
unfavourable situation(扭转不利局势)”意思相同。
Staying composed and focused,,gradually she tumed the tide, winning seven straight
games to secure a hard--fought victory with a final score of 1-6,7-6(3),7-5.(她保持冷静专注,逐渐扭转局势,连赢七
局,最终以l-6、7-6(3)、7-5的比分艰难拿下胜利)”和第三段中“She once suffered a serious elbow injury and
underwent surgery, which kept her out of professional competitions for six months. After returning to the court, she
started from US Open qualifying matches and fought her way steadily back to the main draw, showing extraordinary
Turnaround(一场难以置信的逆转)”精准覆盖全文核心内容,是最贴合的标题。
Trends tend to develop more slowly and reflect broader shifts in society..Fads,however,.
are unpredictable;they come out of nowhere and spread like wildfire before dying out after weeks or months.
There are reasons why we fall for it.First,.it is an inborn desire to belong,.we want to
be part of a group. We seek value through others around us,so we don't want to feel left out or excluded.(我们会沉迷
No one is saying you shouldn't follow a fad.If you have the money to spare and
something brings you joy, then the odd obsession isn't harmful..(没有人说你不应该跟随热潮。
根据第二段“This illustrates the peak-end rule,.a psychological bias(心理偏差)where we judge an
experience based on how we felt at its most intense moment (the peak)and its conclusion (the end),rather than an
average of how we felt throughout the entire experience.(这就体现了峰终定律,一种心理偏差:我们评判一段经历
In the second trial,.they put the other hand in 14℃water for60 seconds,.and kept it there
for another 30 seconds while the temperature was gradually raised to 15C.Asked which trial they would repeat, most
chose the second, despite spending longer in cold water..(在第二次试验中,他们将另一只手放入l4℃的水中60秒,
Since then, the peak-end rule has been observed in many areas of life.Patients may rate
painful medical procedures more favourably if they are slightly longer but end with a gradual decrease in pain. But the
rule can also work the other way around.Life coach Latasha Baynham notes that a painful departure from a job can
overshadow years of good work.(此后,峰终定律在生活的许多方面都得到了体现。
Baynham suggests separating what happened from what we've decided it means. One
way is to divide a page into two columns.Write down the facts in one and the story you have attached to them in the
other. My role was removed is a fact:"I'm not as good as I thought'is a story. Then recover the rest of the evidence
and consider the whole experience.(贝恩汉建议把发生的客观事实和我们主观赋予这件事的解读区分开。
E"You're busy with buying presents,mailing cards,and attending events.And you're often navigating
complicated family dynamics while feeling pressured to create perfect memories.(你忙着买礼物、寄贺卡、参加话
That feeling is referred
D选项“The result is great stress that leaves you emotionally worn out.(结果是巨大的压力让你情感上疲惫不堪。)”
Some say that"freeze mode'”is similar to dissociating,.escaping,.or feeling like they're in a fog..Others
explain that though they might be participating in social activities, they aren't enjoying themselves and feel
She indicates it gives people a
language with a certain kind of dignity for describing what they're experiencing, and that simply say ing I've lost my
现了“她指出”,说明有一位女性对此发表了专业评价,A选项“An expert thinks highly of this wording.(一位
该选项中的“thinks highly of this wording”与下文的“gives people a language with a certain kind of dignity”相
The word“freeze'”suggests a survival instinct. So,maybe the most important text messages receive a reply.
Work assignments get done. The children are fed.(“冻结”一词暗示了一种生存本能。
The feeling may arise from being overwhelmed by
the demands of everyday life..(这种感觉可能源于被日常生活的需求所压倒。)”
“But you can hardly motivate yourself to do anything beyond the essentials.(但你几乎无法激励自己做基本需求
和基本任务完成,且该选项中的“beyond the essentials'”与上文的“most important text messages receive a reply..
Work assignments get done. The children are fed”
"For example,if you are feeling emotionally numb,is there something in particular that you want to be numb
to?If so,can you think about how to deal with that? For general feelings of stress and overwhelm,it's suggested that
F选项“You can focus on your main concerns and
address them one by one.(你可以关注你的主要问题并逐一解决。)”
on your main concerns”与下文的“is there something in particular”相呼应,且该选项中的“address them one by
one”与下文的“how to deal with that”相呼应,表示应对功能性冻结的具体方法。
由上文“Actually, you're not powerless to change it..(实际上,你并非无力改变它。)”
C选项“You are able to adapt and move beyond adversity.(你能够适应并超越逆境。)”
该选项中的“able to adapt and move beyond adversity”与上文的“not powerless to change it”相呼应,表示积极

Each year, millions of people make use of the New York Public Library (NYPL). Any person who lives, works, attends school, or pays taxes in New York State is allowed to have a free library card. Others, such as visitors from abroad, may get only a visitor card on site. Paper application forms can also be downloaded from the library’s website.
New York State applicants simply complete the online application. The library then tries to check their location online, and the result decides which card they receive at first. The flowchart below shows how the process works.
A digital card does not provide access to Culture Pass. To validate a temporary account and borrow physical books, applicants must visit any branch. Children under 13 need a parent or guardian to complete and sign their applications. All cards for New York Metro users expire every three years and must be renewed in person with proof of identity and home address.
All materials borrowed must be returned on or before the due date. The Library offers a return-anywhere service — most circulating material for borrowing can be returned to any New York Public Library branch location in the Bronx, Manhattan or Staten Island. However, circulating books cannot be returned to the Schomburg Center or the Schwarzman Building on 42nd Street. Likewise, pickup of holds and payment of fees may take place at any Library location with the exception of Schomburg and the Schwarzman Building.
21. What does a London tourist need to do to get a visitor card?
A. Complete the online application first.
B. Bring proof of educational resources.
C. Register in person with proof of address and photo ID
D. Submit an online form and collect the card at a branch.
22. What can be learnt from the third paragraph?
A. Users may mail to renew 3-year cards.
B. Digital cards are valid for Culture Pass use.
C. Readers can borrow books after online checks.
D. Youngsters under 13 need adults’ help for applications.
23. What is the text mainly intended to do?
A. To explain card application rules. B. To show online library service steps.
C. To clarify book return requirements. D. To introduce different library cards types.

At the 2026 US Open, Chinese tennis star Zheng Qinwen pulled off an incredible comeback against American opponent Madison Keys, an aggressive one who struck powerful ground-strokes. Zheng fell into a desperate 0-5 deficit (落后分差) early in the deciding set, practically standing on the verge of elimination. Most audience and viewers believed the match was bound to end in defeat.
For most professional athletes, such a huge early gap signals unavoidable defeat so they tend to surrender mentally, choosing to conserve energy rather than waste strength on what seems a lost battle. Yet Zheng refused to give in. Staying composed and focused, gradually she turned the tide, winning seven straight games to secure a hard-fought victory with a final score of 1-6,7-6(3),7-5.
This inspiring turnaround came after a tough period in Zheng’s professional career. She once suffered a serious elbow injury and underwent surgery, which kept her out of professional competitions for six months. The long layoff greatly affected her competitive state and consistency, dragging her ranking sharply down. After returning to the court, she started from US Open qualifying matches and fought her way steadily back to the main draw, showing extraordinary perseverance.
In a post-match interview, Zheng shared her true thoughts behind the epic comeback. “I just told myself, keep holding every single point, never give up. Honestly, this is the first time in my career I’ve turned it around from 0-5. I tried to focus only on the next point. I know it’s never the end until the end,” she said. She also admitted that she did not want to suffer a humiliating 0-6 defeat, which pushed her to keep fighting in the toughest moment.
Tennis legend Martina Navratilova, owner of 59 Grand Slam titles, spoke highly of Zheng’s resilient performance. “I haven’t seen that in a long time,” she remarked. “With Keys leading 5-0 up, you think the match is over; we thought the match was over, but Qinwen Zheng pulled it all the way back.”
24. What may many athletes do facing a 0-5 gap?
A. Hold on firmly. B. Give up mentally.
C. Keep focused consistently. D. Turn to the coach instantly.
25. What does the underlined phrase “turned the tide” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Followed the usual routine. B. Accepted the desperate result.
C. Abandoned the original strategy. D. Shifted the unfavourable situation.
26. Which of the following words best describe Zheng Qinwen?
A. Calm and persistent. B. Aggressive and creative.
C. Ambitious and cautious. D. Fearless and considerate.
27. What is the best title of the text?
A. An Unbelievable Turnaround B. An Amazing Tennis Technique
C. A New Record in Tennis History D. A Long Journey of Strict Training

What makes an adult queue up outside a shop to get their hands on an exclusive, yet ugly, furry-bag charm? Labubu dolls and Stanley cups are fads that have sprung out of nowhere in the last few years.
What makes a fad a fad, rather than a trend? Trends tend to develop more slowly and reflect broader shifts in society. Fads, however, are unpredictable; they come out of nowhere and spread like wildfire before dying out after weeks or months. They’re driven by newness, novelty and exclusivity.
It’s easy to blame social media on the growth of fads. But we had crazes long before we had easy access to the Internet. Cabbage Patch Dolls, Beanie Babies, … there was a time when these were collected obsessively (着迷地) by children and adults alike. What has changed is how fast a fad can start and travel.
Fads and crazes tend to be niche (小众的), and this is how you turn a normal item into a craze: scarcity. Limited runs and waiting lists create a sense of urgency, which in turn fuels obsession, making us spend money before we’ve even thought about whether it’s something we actually want.
There are reasons why we fall for it. First, it is an inborn desire to belong; we want to be part of a group. We seek value through others around us, so we don’t want to feel left out or excluded. Our brains are also wired for novelty, and we get a rush of dopamine as a reward.
No one is saying you shouldn’t follow a fad. If you have the money to spare and something brings you joy, then the odd obsession isn’t harmful. But if you start to feel an obsessive need or you’re consuming beyond your means, this can transition into a problem. Learning to exercise control, build awareness and explore the “why” can help us better understand our motivations before jumping into the latest craze.
28. How is a fad different from a trend?
A. A fad springs up all of a sudden and disappears shortly after.
B. A trend spreads like wildfire and fades away in a short period.
C. A fad is driven by novelty and mirrors large-scale social shifts.
D. A trend is fueled by exclusivity and reflects lasting social changes.
29. Why do people buy into fads according to the passage?
A. To own what is hard for other people to get.
B. To spend money without thinking it through.
C. To follow what social media tells them to do.
D. To meet a natural need for belonging and inclusion.
30. What is the author’s attitude toward fads?
A. Favorable. B. Understandable. C. Negative. D. Dismissive.
31. How is the passage mainly organized?
A. By raising a problem and offering solutions.
B. By introducing a topic and providing examples.
C. By presenting a phenomenon and analyzing its causes.
D. By comparing two opinions and drawing a conclusion.
D
You’re at a theme park. After a 45-minute wait in the heat, your feet ache and you wonder why you’re bothering. But then you get on the ride. It’s thrilling. You reach the peak (顶峰) of the rollercoaster and let out an excited roar. You step off and feel alive. The irritation of the queue couldn’t be further from your mind.
This illustrates the peak-end rule, a psychological bias (心理偏差) where we judge an experience based on how we felt at its most intense moment (the peak) and its conclusion (the end), rather than an average of how we felt throughout the entire experience.
The model was proposed by psychologists Barbara Fredrickson and Daniel Kahneman. In their 1993 study, participants put one hand in 14℃ water for 60 seconds. In the second trial, they put the other hand in 14℃ water for 60 seconds, and kept it there for another 30 seconds while the temperature was gradually raised to 15℃. Asked which trial they would repeat, most chose the second, despite spending longer in cold water.
Since then, the peak-end rule has been observed in many areas of life. Patients may rate painful medical procedures more favourably if they are slightly longer but end with a gradual decrease in pain. But the rule can also work the other way around. Life coach Latasha Baynham notes that a painful departure from a job can overshadow years of good work.
Our brains do this because we tend to have a better memory of highly emotional events. To break free, Baynham suggests separating what happened from what we’ve decided it means. One way is to divide a page into two columns. Write down the facts in one and the story you have attached to them in the other. “My role was removed” is a fact; “I’m not as good as I thought” is a story. Then recover the rest of the evidence and consider the whole experience.
The aim isn’t to pretend a difficult experience did not matter, but to stop one part of the story from becoming the whole truth. Becoming aware of how we subconsciously rewrite our experiences can help us find balance and self-compassion.
32. Which situation best illustrates the peak-end rule?
A. Jack enjoys every part of a concert equally.
B. Tom feels tired after studying for several hours.
C. The smell of fresh bread makes Emma feel hungry.
D. A lovely final dinner makes Lily recall a dull trip fondly.
33. Why did most participants choose the second trial in the 1993 study?
A. It lasted for a longer time.
B. It ended with less discomfort.
C. It used a more familiar method.
D. It caused less pain throughout the trial.
34. What does paragraph 4 mainly discuss?
A. How the rule affects real-life judgments.
B. How job satisfaction relates to physical pain.
C. Why emotional events are remembered clearly.
D. Why longer treatments may earn higher ratings.
35. What would someone following Baynham’s advice most likely do after losing a job?
A. Put the experience aside until they feel ready to reflect.
B. View the experience as a sign they should change careers.
C. Identify who was responsible before deciding how to respond.
D. Review their overall performance before drawing conclusions.
Let’s face it: The holidays aren’t always the most relaxing time of the year. You’re busy with buying presents, mailing cards, and attending events. And you’re often navigating complicated family dynamics while feeling pressured to create perfect memories. 36 That feeling is referred to as “functional freeze”.
People regard “functional freeze” as being “tired and wired” — anxiety mixed with exhaustion. Some say that “freeze mode” is similar to dissociating, escaping, or feeling like they’re in a fog. Others explain that though they might be participating in social activities, they aren’t enjoying themselves and feel emotionally numb (麻木的). 37 She indicates it gives people a language with a certain kind of dignity for describing what they’re experiencing, and that simply saying “I’ve lost my motivation” isn’t quite persuasive.
The word “freeze” suggests a survival instinct. So, maybe the most important text messages receive a reply. Work assignments get done. The children are fed. 38 The feeling may arise from being overwhelmed by the demands of everyday life. It could also be a product of information overload.
39 For example, if you are feeling emotionally numb, is there something in particular that you want to be numb to? If so, can you think about how to deal with that? For general feelings of stress and overwhelm, it’s suggested that you practice yoga, tai chi, or running to tune into your body and feel calmer.
Above all, avoid telling yourself that you’re unable to function, and therefore you can’t do things. Actually, you’re not powerless to change it. 40
A. An expert thinks highly of this wording.
B. You’d better ignore the emotional numbness.
C. You are able to adapt and move beyond adversity.
D. The result is great stress that leaves you emotionally worn out.
E. Instead, different people understand “functional freeze” correctly.
F. You can focus on your main concerns and address them one by one.
G. But you can hardly motivate yourself to do anything beyond the essentials.

Li Wei, a high school senior, had always felt confused between her mother’s expectation and her own dream. Her mother, a traditional Chinese medicine doctor, ran a small clinic in their town. The air inside was always filled with the earthy smell of dried herbs. Her mother had long hoped Li Wei would take over the family business. “A career in medicine is a good choice, and it connects us to our roots,” her mother often said, pointing to the old books lining on the shelves.
But Li Wei’ s heart belonged to classical dance. She spent hours practicing in secret, and her room was full of posters of international dance groups. One evening, while helping her mother prepare herbs, Li Wei accidentally knocked over a jar of ginseng (人参). As she hurried to clean up, her mother’s voice cut through the silence, “You’re too distracted. This is why you can’t focus on your studies — and the clinic.”
Li Wei’ s cheeks turned red. “I don’ t want to be a doctor!” she shouted. “I want to dance!” Before her mother could answer, Li Wei grabbed her bag and ran out, leaving the clinic door moving.
Weeks passed, and the tension between them reached boiling point. Li Wei avoided the clinic, spending long hours at dance practices even though her knees had become swollen and red. When she did come home, the house was full of cold silence, broken only by the occasional noise of her mother’s tool grinding (研磨) herbs. But Li Wei couldn’t miss the way her mother’s eyes looked at her dance shoes, or the soft sighs that came from her during their rare talks. She was eager for her mother’s support.
Then came a big chance: a national dance competition. Li Wei’ s hands shook as she filled out the application form, her heart beating fast. But when she looked at the bottom of the page, she felt scared. The form needed a parent’s signature, a sad reminder of the gap between her and her mother.

That evening, Li Wei arrived at the clinic, with the application form in hand.
