A Poster Competition Inspired by Chimpanzee
Chimpanzee is set deep in the forests of Africa and it tells the true story of Oscar, a young chimp (黑猩猩) who is naturally curious and playful. Now Film Education invites students aged 5 — 11 to make their own Earth Day poster inspired by the film.
About the Competition
This activity gives students the chance to celebrate Earth Day in an unusual way — by creating a poster that shows the amazing settings and wildlife of their local area.
Prizes
·The winning poster to be printed and designed by professionals, and then displayed in CineWorld cinemas across the UK.
·£1,000 for the school
·A preview screening for the class of the winner
Poster
·Start by looking carefully at the Chimpanzee poster available here for ideas.
·Draw or create pictures of your local natural environment to be included in your poster — this could be your school grounds or the local park or beauty spot. It could even be your favourite tree.
·Collect a selection of these images.
·Create a “rough edit” by placing your chosen images on a blank piece of paper. Decide on the most impactful design.
·Once you’re happy with your poster, create your final version for submission (提交).
Rules
·Your aim is to make people aware of Earth Day, on April 22.
·You can use anything you like to create your poster: drawings, paintings, digitally created images or photographs of your local natural area.
·The size of your poster can be A4 or A3.
·Your audience is children of your age and their parents, and teachers who will go and see Chimpanzee at the cinema.
·Your teacher will scan your poster and email it to primary@filmeducation.org, or send it to Film Education.
1. Which is a prize for the winner?
A. Free travel across the UK all year. B. Personal cash prize of over £1,000.

3. Who is responsible for submitting the participants’ finished posters?
A. Their parents. B. Their teachers.

Approaching 96, at an age when most are lonely and in poor health, Olga Murray, full of energy, has been eagerly planning a trip to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, while keeping in contact with hundreds of friends around the world. How can she be in such good shape? Is it due to her good genes? (Her mother lived to 98.) or her daily salads and three-times-a-week workouts? Or might it have something to do with the retired lawyer’s second career as founder of a nonprofit organization?
Scientists are increasingly finding that the answer — living with purpose. Finding meaning in life or just engaging with something larger than yourself — can be a particularly healthy pursuit. Living with a sense of purpose can improve the quality of those final years. Murray offers a vivid example of how to create a sense of meaning.
Murray’s story began in 1984, after she had worked 37 years as a lawyer and was starting to think about retirement. At 59, while traveling in Nepal, Murray found herself amazed by the children there. “They were poor beyond anything I had ever experienced,” she recalled in a self-published memoir (自传) years later. “Yet they were the most joyful little kids anywhere on earth.” She wanted to put the rest of her life into helping educate Nepalese children.
Returning to Nepal the next year, she met Allan Aistrope, then a volunteer English teacher at the country’s only orphanage (孤儿院). The two combined forces, beginning with organizing college scholarships for four of the orphans. After another five years, they had launched the Nepal Youth Foundation (NYF), which by then was supporting several hundred scholarship students and raising 60 homeless children. In 1994, the two hired Som Paneru, a former scholarship student, as executive director. Murray has taken several steps to make sure the NYF will survive after the unavoidable loss of her presence. She handed over the presidency to Paneru in 2012. Now, she is busy as usual, leading lots of fundraising campaigns.
24. When did Murray plan to help Nepalese kids?
A. After her Nepal trip. B. In her 37th year of work.
C. When she retired in 2012. D. After meeting Allan Aistrope.
25. Who became NYF’s president in 2012?
A. Allan Aistrope. B. Som Paneru. C. Olga Murray. D. A Nepalese lawyer.
26. Which words can best describe Murray?
A. Devoted and energetic. B. Wealthy and lonely. C. Shy and experienced. D. Strict and impatient.
27. What is the author’s aim in writing the text?
A. To introduce Nepal’s poor kids. B. To advertise NYF’s scholarships.
C. To explain the value of life purpose. D. To describe Murray’s travel experiences.

For 78-year-old Wang Gaiying, the remote ancient building in Gaoping, Shanxi Province, is not only a hidden architectural treasure but also her home for the past 58 years. Its 24 vividly detailed statues have become popular online recently. With the main hall built in 1168, the structure was repaired and expanded during the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368-1911). Thanks to its recent popularity, the once-damaged building was restored and opened to the public on Aug. 24. Now many people come to admire it every day.
As more people visit, Wang’s devotion to preserving the structure has gone viral and hit national headlines, giving a lot of publicity to these caretakers of the country’s cultural heritage. What makes Wang stand out is that her family has been guarding the building for four generations - cleaning it, keeping people from entering and preventing theft. Since getting married at 20, Wang began assisting her mother-in-law who became the guardian of the building in the 1950s. When she passed away in 1988, Wang took over the responsibility.
With the passing years, it has been a challenge for her to preserve the structure. After discussions with her daughter and her son-in-law, the couple moved from their nearby home to the building to help Wang Gaiying. Just as promised, her daughter took on the role of part-time tour guide after graduating from college, joining her grandmother and mother in safeguarding it.
In some ancient buildings that are not open to the public in the quiet mountains and countryside of Shanxi, more than 3,000 grassroots protectors like Wang Gaiying care for these rarely known ancient structures. The locals call them culture keepers, who watch over the structures day and night. Like unsung heroes, they have been preserving the past and ensuring that the cultural treasures of Shanxi are protected for future generations.
28. What can we learn about the ancient building?
A. It has been open to the public since 1168.
B. It was first built in the Ming Dynasty.

30. What is the focus of Wang’s work?
A. To guide the visitors. B. To attract more visitors.
C. To preserve the structure. D. To make it known to the public.
31. What is the author’s attitude to the culture keepers?
A. Objective. B. Supportive. C. Critical. D. Unclear.

If you want to improve your memory, you need to know how your brain works. You might be surprised to hear that your lifestyle habits might be making it difficult for you to correctly record each piece of information, experience, or learning.
It would appear that the secret to improving your memory is really simple. It’s to take breaks. As a matter of fact, the brain has more limited (有限的) energy resources than you probably think. Therefore. it tires quickly and its levels of attention begin to drop after about 30 to 45 minutes.
The hippocampus is the area of your brain that’s responsible for consolidating (巩固) your short-term memories in the long term. Furthermore, for this consolidation to be possible, there must be an connection with different areas of the cerebral cortex (大脑皮层) . At the present time, we know that, for best connectivity, we must rest. Therefore, factors such as tiredness, bad feelings, or stress make it difficult to connect one area to the other.
Michaela Dewar, a researcher at the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom, conducted a study with other experts to understand how to improve memory consolidation processes. What they found was that something as simple as taking breaks of between 9 and15 minutes improves memory, both in healthy people and in those with neurological damage (神经系统受损) .
However, there’s one small detail that’s important. The rest must be real rest. In other words, you should go to a quiet space and give up anything that takes your attention away. This includes not having your cellphone nearby. The secret to improving your memory requires you to rest for between 10 and 15 minutes leaving your mind completely empty.
Your lifestyle plays an extremely important role in the way your memory functions (运转) . Rest isn’t wasting time. In fact, allowing yourself small breaks is good for your health and well-being.
32. What is the secret to improving memory?
A. Learning about brain. B. Recording every details.
C. Having breaks. D. Forming good habits.
33. What factor may influence the connection between different areas of cerebral cortex?
A. Satisfaction. B. Sadness. C. Excitement. D. Happiness.
34. What does the underlined word “conducted” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A. Found. B. Began. C. Produce D. Organised.
35. Where is the text most probably taken from?
A. A science report. B. A dictionary.
C. A course plan. D. A textbook.

In her second year of high school, Linda met a transfer student named David in the school literature club. The quiet boy always sat in the corner, his eyes showing a sadness that didn’t match his age. He loved reading but never participated in activities that required money.
“Class, we’ll have a campus writing competition next week,” the literature teacher announced one day. “Winners will enter the city competition and receive writing guides.” Linda felt excited, but noticed David looking down, his fingers moving nervously.
After school, Linda found David reading in the library. “Let’s join the competition!” she said warmly. David shook his head. “I can’t.” “Why? You write beautifully!” Linda insisted. David closed his old notebook and answered, “It needs money for books…My parents work hard away from home. “
Their teacher later told Linda more: David’s family struggled financially. He never asked for anything. “He’s too hard on himself,” the teacher said. “He wants to join but fears failing and disappointing his parents.”
The next day, Linda brought her books to David. “We can share these. I’ve read about writers who overcame difficulties — their stories inspire me. Once we become famous writers, we can earn a lot of money!” Encouraged by her words, David finally agreed.
While preparing, Linda often shared stories of famous writers’ struggles. David showed great writing talent but was too strict with himself. He often asked, “Am I wasting your time?” “Of course not,” Linda reassured him with a smile. “I’m not a talented writer either, and-I joined just for the experience, not expecting to win. So please, don’t overthink it.”
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
