Nora finally finished the kite: bright and light, ready to lift. At break, she ran to the field to fly the kite. The breeze lifted it with a friendly pull. Nora ____13____, breath sharp and happy.
Then came a loud shout. Someone ran about and tripped (绊倒) into the kite string. It was Jamie, a boy from her class. One corner of the kite tore! Nora’s heart sank. Tears almost rolled down as she held the kite like a folded letter. She headed to the ____14____ where she liked to sit, hoping to calm herself down.
“What happened?” Mrs. Rivera, the librarian, asked. Nora told her, stopping and starting. Mrs. Rivera sat beside her and listened. She didn’t ____15____ with advice. When Nora finished, Mrs. Rivera tapped (轻拍) a book which is about mending (修补) things with tape and kindness. “We mend things this way, and sometimes we mend with words — we ____16____ it out,” she said.
The idea of mending with words made Nora think of the person who had tripped into her kite. She felt curiosity mixed with a thin worry.
“Would you like to try?” Mrs. Rivera asked. “We can practice what to ____17____. You can use kind sentences and also tell them how you feel. That helps people understand.”
Nora liked the idea. They practiced. “When you tripped my kite, I felt sad. Could you help me fix it?” They tried different endings — could you help, could you say sorry? Each felt safer, like putting a step on a bridge.
The next day, Nora saw Jamie. She held the sentences in her mind. “Jamie?” she called ____18____.
Jamie jogged over. “Hey, Nora! About the kite — I’m really sorry. I didn’t mean to. I saw it tear and I felt awful.”
Nora felt something open. “I felt sad and disappointed,” she said. “I worked on it for days. It was really special to me.”
They fixed it together that afternoon with tape and careful hands. As they worked, their ____19____ flowed (流淌): small apologies, small thanks, small jokes. Each felt like a stitch (针脚).
At night, Nora looked at the kite and felt proud — not because the kite was perfect, but because she had found words to say how she felt. She closed her eyes and breathed slowly, keeping the feeling of a ____20____ corner safe in her heart.

B
Samuel used to count down the minutes until the final school bell rang. The 14-year-old middle school student cared little about homework, tests or classroom discussions. He often skipped after-school activities and spent most of his free time playing video games alone. Teachers described him as smart but unfocused, while his parents always worried about his lazy attitude toward schoolwork.
A turning point came when his teacher, Mrs. Smith, invited the whole class to join a community food bank volunteer program. Samuel signed up only to finish his required volunteer hours. His job was to sort canned food, pack donation boxes and hand out supplies to local families in need every Saturday morning.
At the beginning, he treated the work as a boring task. He moved slowly and kept silent throughout the service. One cold Saturday, a single mother brought her two hungry little kids to pick up groceries. The younger child, no older than five, held on to a worn toy and looked up at Samuel with wide, trusting eyes. When he handed over the supplies, the mother’s eyes were filled with tears as she thanked him repeatedly for the food that helped her get through hard days. That moment struck Samuel deeply. For the first time, he realized his simple work could bring warmth to other people’s lives.
Gradually, Samuel became the most responsible volunteer in the group. He arrived early each week and took the heaviest work voluntarily. The sense of achievement from helping others shaped his attitude toward study. He began to use this serious attitude in his school subjects. He started finishing tasks on time and actively joined group discussions in class. When a difficult task came up, he no longer gave up halfway but stuck with it until it was done.
Volunteering did not raise his scores overnight, but it rebuilt his self-discipline (自律). Samuel finally found his inner drive. Teenagers often lose themselves without clear goals, but meaningful practice outside textbooks can guide them to grow into responsible young people.
24. How did Samuel’s teachers describe him before the volunteering program?
A. Curious and creative. B. Clever but unfocused.
C. Helpful but impatient. D. Responsible and serious.
25. What changed Samuel’s attitude toward the volunteer work?
A. The child’s trust and the mother’s thanks.
B. His parents’ worry and his classmates’ help.
C. The schoolwork and group discussions in class.
D. His teacher’s invitation and the volunteer hours.
26. What does the writer mainly want to tell us through the story?
A. Being thankful for others is worth passing on.
B. Finding one’s goals contributes to a better grade.
C. A good attitude is the key to overcoming difficulties.
D. Meaningful practice helps one get a sense of purpose.
C
Cities are always developing. They are built up, layer by layer, each time leaving its marks on what came before. Over time, every city’s infrastructure (基础设施) becomes a record of the people who shaped it years before.
Walk through Rome, and the history is impossible to ignore. The remains of a long-gone power lie under busy streets. Yet Rome, just like every great city, cannot stand still. Nowadays millions of visitors and locals move through the city. They expect to stay connected above and below ground using everything from GPS to way-finding tools. The challenge is that today’s expectations for connectivity must be woven (融入) into yesterday’s infrastructure without causing damage. After all, every small hole dug for digital networks can become an archaeological (考古) event.
New York City (NYC) faces its own special challenges. The city is built on a web of century-old subway tunnels, but they were not designed to enable real-time messaging and video calling deep underground.
Different in history and culture, yet both Rome and NYC are looking for the answer to the same question: How do you build connectivity through places that weren’t designed to carry it?
To answer this question, both cities turned to companies specializing in designing and using digital infrastructure to bring future-ready connectivity to places where traditional methods won’t work. In Rome, this means respecting a historic site and its limits, and in NYC this means equipping the world’s largest and busiest subway system with network infrastructure.
Building digital infrastructure in historic cities requires more than technical skills. It needs an understanding that every new development must coexist with the ones before: supporting the future, without destroying the past. A key concern at every stage of modernization is making sure that cities are protected and respected.
Central to this method is Neutral Host model. Rather than every mobile company building its own infrastructure, the model allows a single shared infrastructure to be built, which many wireless carriers (运营商) can join. The result can minimize construction (施工), and it is future-ready.
From transportation systems to big entertainment, from campuses to mixed-use sites, these companies build the connectivity that keeps key infrastructure and communities connected. Their work takes place largely out of sight, but its influence does affect our everyday life.
27. Why does the writer mention Rome in Paragraph 2?
A. To question an idea. B. To explain a method.
C. To offer a solution. D. To introduce a challenge.
28. What can we learn about the Neutral Host model?
A. Each mobile company has its own network equipment.
B. Different wireless carriers share the same infrastructure.
C. It works for entertainment sites and university campuses.
D. It helps to speed up the transportation system in big cities.
29. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Connecting the Past with the Future
B. Shaping New Cities by Connectivity
C. Why Can’t a Great City Stand Still?
D. How Will the Old Give Way to the New?
D
Recently a new form of intelligence has caught the public imagination: story intelligence. It is the ability to recognize, interpret (解读), question and shape the stories that govern our understanding, emotions and behavior.
Most of us undervalue how stories shape our lives. We think of stories as something fictional in novels or films. But the most powerful ones are not fictional. They are the stories we continually construct (构建) about ourselves, others and the world.
We seldom experience reality directly. Instead, we experience our interpretation of it. Our interpretation takes the forms of stories; we choose certain scenes and details, and put them into a relation of cause and effect. These stories are so familiar that we mistake them for facts or truths and they have gradually hardened into key beliefs.
We may tell ourselves we are not leadership material and that our bosses do not value us. Many of these stories are based on a highly chosen reading of our lives: often unfair and biased (有偏见的). When new information disagrees with what we already believe, we feel uncomfortable, and we filter new experiences so that they fit with and reinforce (加强) the stories we already believe.
As a practical human ability, story intelligence begins with questions many of us seldom ask: What story am I now telling myself? Which experiences and interpretations is this story built on? Is this story helping me—or holding me back? These questions matter because our stories not only describe our reality but also construct it and determine our futures. For example, interpreting advice as criticism or a chance for self-improvement will lead to totally different responses.
Now AI can produce reports and analyze data in seconds. However, it cannot decide what that information means for us. Meaning-making remains important human ability. Our decision depends on the stories we tell about the facts. The more information AI provides, the more important human interpretation and story intelligence become.
Story intelligence is not about replacing every difficult thought with a positive one. Nor is it about acting as if painful realities do not exist—some stories are true and need to be heard and acted on. Instead, it is about realizing that our interpretations can be changed more easily than we think.
The most story-intelligent people hold their own stories lightly. They remain curious about the stories they are telling themselves and other people’s stories. They notice when an interpretation is mistaken for a fact. They are willing to change when new information appears. They become active authors rather than passive prisoners (囚徒) of their stories.
30. In the idea of “story intelligence”, “story” refers to something ________.
A. fictional in novels or films B. about our interpretations of reality
C. mainly shaped from truths and facts D. controlled by our emotions and ideas
31. What does the underlined word “filter” in Paragraph 4 most probably mean?
A. Clear away. B. Search for. C. Fix up. D. Sort out.
32. What can we do to become a person with high story intelligence?
A. Use AI to explain the deep meaning behind data.
B. Keep open-minded about ideas you disagree with.
C. Choose new information to strengthen key beliefs.
D. Get over pains by shutting out painful experiences.
33. What is the author’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A. To stress story intelligence as an important human skill.
B. To clear up misunderstandings about story intelligence.
C. To suggest replacing negative personal interpretations.
D. To argue for rewriting the stories about ourselves.
第三部分
本部分共5题,共20分。根据题目要求,完成相应任务。
七、阅读表达(第47-49题每题2分,第50题4分,共10分)
阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
Today, AI can greatly help people to read and write in almost any language. This allows a basic-level exchange of ideas but comes at a very high price: the loss of real connection with languages. The challenges and joys of learning a new language are exactly why it is still so important to do so in the AI era.
Recently I’ve received emails in perfect English from Chinese readers of my writings. At first, I was amazed at their excellent English skills, but soon I realized that these readers had used AI tools for translation or improvement. Such readers probably imagined they were drawing nearer to me, but reading the emails felt like talking to a robot, and I felt disconnected.
My own journey with languages has been deeply personal and rewarding. I’ve worked on at least 10 languages. Learning languages has often left me highly frustrated (受挫的), but has also given me great joy. I loved the different sounds, writing systems, grammar, idioms and ways of seeing the world. I also loved feeling the culture and history hidden in the words and the songs from other lands.
There was a time when I wished I had grown up bilingual (双语的) in French and English. But later I realized that effortless bilinguals didn’t experience the joy of learning French through hard work. For me, learning the sounds of French was exciting, and learning idioms was endlessly interesting. Being able to speak French fluently after years of hard work was a fantastic experience.
I have struggled with Chinese for many years, but I still want to learn it well on my own. What I value is the personal experience of learning. We try our best, and sometimes we succeed admirably, and sometimes we don’t.
Learning another language is one of the most meaningful human experiences. Language is at the heart of who we are. I want to enjoy languages directly, instead of depending on AI tools. Maybe I’m just a dinosaur and attitudes like mine are disappearing these days, but that’s how I grew up, and that’s how I’ll feel till my dying day.
34. What’s the high price of AI helping to read and write?
__________________________________________________
35. Why did the writer feel disconnected when reading AI-written emails?
__________________________________________________
36. What does the writer value when struggling with Chinese learning?

五、完形填空(每题1.5分,共12分)
阅读下面的短文,掌握其大意,然后从短文后各题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选择最佳选项。

【答案】24. B 25. A 26. D

【答案】27. D 28. B 29. A

【答案】30. B 31. D 32. B 33. A

__________________________________________________
37. Would you like to enjoy languages with the help of AI? Why?
__________________________________________________
【答案】34. The loss of real connection with languages.
35. Because reading the emails felt like talking to a robot.
36. The personal experience of learning.
37. Yes. Because AI can help me learn new words quickly./No. Because I want to get the joy of learning languages on my own. (回答合理即可)
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇议论文,作者表达了自己对AI辅助语言学习的看法,认为借助AI读写语言会失去和语言真正的联结,强调亲身学习语言的独特价值与乐趣。
【34题详解】
根据原文第一段第2句“This allows a basic-level exchange of ideas but comes at a very high price: the loss of real connection with languages.”,AI帮助人们读写语言所要付出的高昂代价是失去与语言真正的联结。
【35题详解】
根据原文第二段第3句“Such readers probably imagined they were drawing nearer to me, but reading the emails felt like talking to a robot, and I felt disconnected.”,作者意识到这些邮件是读者利用AI工具翻译或者润色而成,阅读这类邮件就如同和机器人交谈。
【36题详解】
根据原文第五段第2句“What I value is the personal experience of learning.”,作者在艰难学习中文的过程中,看重的是学习这门语言带来的个人体验。
【37题详解】
本题属于开放性问题,回答合理即可。

【答案】例文
The thinking habit that benefits me most is having a growth mindset.
I used to be afraid of making mistakes. Then I learned about the growth mindset: mistakes are not failures but chances to learn. I started to be brave enough to try new things without worrying about getting things wrong.
Now if I make a mistake, I write it down, ask the teacher for help, and try again. I am always willing to challenge myself and learn from my mistakes. This habit helps me solve every problem easily and makes me more confident.
