M:Hello.International Friends Club.Can I help you?
W:Oh,hello.I read about your club in the paper today and I thought I'd phone to find out a
bit more.
M:Yes,certainly.Well,we are a sort of social club for people from different countries. It's
quite a new club-we have about 50 members at the moment, but we are growing all the
time.
W:That sounds interesting.I'm British actually, and I came to Washington about three

organize?
M:Well,we have social get-togethers,and sports events, and we also have language
evenings.
W:Could you tell me something about the language evenings?
M:Yes.Every day except Thursday we have a language evening.People can come and
practice their languages-you know, over a drink or something. We have different
languages on different evenings.Monday-Spanish;Tuesday-Italian;Wednesday-
German;and Friday-French.On Thursday we usually have a meal in a restaurant for
anyone who wants to come.
W:Well, that sounds great.I really need to practice my French.
M:OK.Well,if you can just give me your name and address,I'll send you the form and some
more information. If you join now,you can have the first month free.

W:This summer I joined a three-week camp in China. The camp was for language
learning. The other campers and I learned Chinese through activities like storytelling and role-
playing.In the first week,to use the vocabulary we'd learned in real-world situations,we
were encouraged to buy vegetables at the market and book entry tickets to the museum.
During the second week, the activities were richer. We attended classes in traditional Chinese
art in the first three days, such as fan painting, paper cutting, and Chinese calligraphy. It was
so cool to drive out the summer heat with a fan painted by myself. Then the following day,
we went to eat traditional food.We also spent two days visiting some places of interest,
learning about the local history of the area.In the last week,we had a sharing session, during
which we were asked to describe the part we liked best about our camp.It was a hard choice.
For me,every activity was fun.I hope to come again in the future.

参考范文:
Dear Leo,
I'm writing to tell you about the speech contest held in our school last Friday, whose
theme was“Qualities Shape Success'”.
The contest aimed to inspire us to realize the importance of good qualities in achieving
success. Many students took an active part in it.Fifteen contestants delivered speeches on
stage. Some stressed perseverance, and others highlighted honesty or responsibility. The
judges asked a few questions after each speech, and the atmosphere was lively and inspiring.
The contest benefited me a lot.I truly believe that noble qualities are the foundation of
success and we should cultivate them in our daily life.
Yours,
Li Hua

参考范文:
Eventually,I persuaded Mom to help me make changes to the painting on the
backdrop. She knelt down on the garage floor, gently brushing new colors over my messy
sunset. Her hands, usually busy with dough, moved steadily and skilfully. She softened the
sharp lines of the buildings and blended the orange and purple into a warm, glowing sky.We
painted side by side, and the ugly backdrop finally turned into a wonderful piece of art. When
the backdrop was displayed at the arts festival,it received high praise from the teachers and
students.
After the backdrop won recognition,we decided to paint on one window of the bakery
together. We chose a lovely spring theme with flowers and soft sunlight.Customers stopped
to watch us paint and praised our work. Many of them came into the shop to buy bread and
desserts.Mom's business slowly got better.More importantly,we no longer lived on
different schedules.Painting brought us closer, and we began to share not only small daily
matters, but also our dreams and worries.

Fifty-year-old Molash Weldezgu lives in a remote mountain district of northern Ethiopia,
where drought and poor harvests once pushed her to abandon her land entirely. As the single
breadwinner of a five-child family,she faced endless hardship:dried farmland,empty grain

storage, and no steady income to cover her children's schooling and medical bills
In 2024,the worst drought in two decades ruined all her crops, leaving her with no
savings and heavy anxiety about the future. Many local farmers sold their small plots and
moved to cities for low-paid labor, but Molash refused to give up the only land that had
supported her family for generations.
She joined an agricultural support program of Food and Agriculture Organization of the
United Nations (FAO)in early 2025,gaining drought-resistant wheat seeds and free farming
training.Every dawn, before the mountain fog faded, she walked three kilometers to her
fields, tending seedlings alone under the burning sun.Neighbors doubted her efforts, saying
the barren soil could never produce a good harvest again.Yet Molash kept adjusting planting
methods, recording rainfall and soil conditions every night in a worn notebook she picked up
at a village market. When pests damaged half of her young wheat, she stayed up for nights
欧
learning natural pest control skills shared by agricultural instructors.
After 18 months of consistent work, her fields bore a rich golden harvest in 2026.She
not only filled her family's grain reserves but also sold surplus wheat to help three poor single
mothers in her village buy farm supplies."Persistence does not mean never feeling tired,"
Molash said in an interview with UN reporters."It means choosing to show up again even
when every sign tells you to quit."
Her story spread across regional rural media, inspiring dozens of villagers to stay on their
land and adopt scientific farming. For Molash, the biggest reward is not the harvest itself,
but proving that ordinary people can rewrite tough fates through steady perseverance.

When it comes to global warming and species extinction, people always tend to focus on
lovely polar bears and other furry animals, yet the plant world, which is vital to ecological
balance and human survival,is easily ignored and severely threatened by climate change.A
◇
study published in the journal Science on Thursday predicts that tens of thousands of plant
【高二英语第4页(共10页)】
species may disappear completely before the end of this century.
Due to rising temperatures and changing rainfall and snowfall patterns,7%to 16%of
global plant species may lose over 90%of their habitats (and face extinction in 55 to
75 years.Though plants can move to cooler places with the help of wind, water and animals
as the climate warms, the latest computer simulations prove that this active migration cannot
lower the high extinction rate at all."It is not because they are not moving fast enough,"
researcher Xiaoli Dong explained,"It's because the habitats they depend on will no longer
exist."She added that faster warming speeds directly lead to the severe extinction of various
local plants.
Another study published in the same journal focuses on flowering plants, which include
over 335,000 species worldwide. It shows that nearly 10,000 such species are facing
弥
extinction at present, and their disappearance will cause huge losses to Earth's precious
biological diversity.Unlike common species with close relatives, many special flowering
plants carry hundreds of millions of years of unique evolutionary history.
A major problem is that plant extinction is far less noticed than animal extinction in
public conservation."We're trying to redress that imbalance between plants and animals,"
researcher Felix Forest said.
Since human beings are more interested in lovely animals than ordinary plants, plant
protection has long been underestimated in global ecological conservation.Experts stressed
that unstable plant survival will threaten human food security and basic living supplies,so
封
immediate and effective action is urgently needed to protect endangered plants and maintain
ecological stability.
28.What does the author intend to do in paragraph 1?
A.Raise the concern about plants.
B.Praise polar bear protection.
C.Explain climate change fully.
D.Show different journal studies.
29.Why does plants'migration fail to prevent their own extinction?
A.Plants cannot travel at a satisfying high speed.
B.Cool places can hardly meet plants'basic needs.
C.Strong winds block plants'long-distance movement.
D.Climate change makes plants'habitats disappear fast.
线
30.What can we know from paragraph 3?
A.Earth's biological diversity depends on plants.
B.Flowering plants are important to the ecosystem.
C.About 335,000 plants are facing extinction now.
D.Flowering plants have their own close relatives.
31.What may the author agree with?
A.Animal feeding deserves more effort.
B.Evolution research should be advanced
C.Plant protection needs more attention.
D.Human supplies should be greatly cut.

Some of the universe's earliest massive galaxies may have much more mass than
astronomers once believed.Their brightest stars are easy to see,but many small, faint
(stars may be hidden by their light. This means these galaxies may be much heavier
than earlier studies suggested.
An international team used NASA's James Webb Space Telescope (JWST)and the Very
Large Telescope to study nine massive galaxies. These galaxies stopped forming stars billions
of years ago.By combining the observations, the researchers were able, for the first time,to
reliably estimate (the relative numbers of tiny, faint stars and much larger, brighter
stars in galaxies at such great distances.
"These galaxies are different, said Joel Leja,a professor at Penn State."They're
different in a way that is really challenging to understand, because they are more massive than
we expected.”
To uncover those faint star populations, astronomers separated each galaxy's light into a
spectrum, where small differences in color reveal which kinds of stars are present.Bright
stars usually dominate the spectrum,so faint stars were difficult to find.Researchers used
models to better understand the light.
Astronomers have traditionally estimated the unseen mass contained in small, faint stars
by assuming that stars form in roughly the same proportions throughout the universe. The
new measurements challenge that assumption. They indicate that the most massive galaxies in
the early universe contain a substantially larger share of low-mass stars than less massive
galaxies such as the Milky Way.
"This discovery has major implications for our understanding of the early universe,"said
Leja."Since the launch of JWST,astronomers have found surprisingly massive and mature
galaxies that already existed shortly after the Big Bang.If these galaxies really contain more
low-mass stars, their total mass may also have been underestimated.
Over the next several years, the researchers plan to apply the same method to galaxies
from even earlier periods, bringing them closer to the epoch when the universe's first
generations of stars and galaxies formed.
32.How did the researchers find faint stars?
A.By examining differences in galaxy light.
B.By comparing the sizes of galaxies.
C.By observing stars from the Milky Way.
D.By measuring changes in star movement.
33.What does the underlined word "implications"in paragraph 6 mean?
A.Hidden reasons.
B.Possible effects.
C.New disadvantages.
D.Various opinions.
【高二英语第6页(共10页)】
34.What does the researchers'future plan show?
A.Earlier galaxies are easier to study now.
B.Galaxy formation is no longer a mystery.
C.Their current method has proved perfect
D.The discovery of faint stars may lead to wider research.
35.Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A.A Study of the Milky Way
B.Changes in Space Technology

if you want to be comfortable at parties or in large groups, you'll need to move beyond your
comfort zone. You can expand the group to include more people, perhaps by inviting your
friends'partners or their other friends.38.
Don't dismiss(不予考虑)small talk
Many introverts don't like small talk. They think it's shallow or a waste of time and
would prefer to discuss weightier topics.39.It allows people to bond and encourages a

Over the years,Mom and I seemed to live on different schedules.I left early for school,
stayed late for clubs, and disappeared into my room after dinner.Mom managed a
neighborhood bakery and often came home smelling faintly of flour and coffee. We
talked,of course,but mostly about practical things-homework,tests,and whether I had
remembered my keys.
Lately, even those conversations had grown shorter.A new bakery had opened across the
street from Mom's shop, drawing away customers with its bright windows and fashionable
desserts.Mom never complained, but I noticed the unopened bills beside her laptop and the
tired way she rubbed her forehead at night. At first,I worried about her.Soon, however,
欧
school filled my attention again.Mom's problems belonged to the adult world,I told myself.
That Friday,I stayed after school to help prepare for our spring arts festival. My job was
to paint a huge paper backdrop(背景幕布)for the stage.Unfortunately, the sunset I had
imagined turned into a mess of orange and purple.Frustrated,I carried the half-finished
backdrop home, planning to hide it in the garage and start over the next morning.
Mom arrived while I was carelessly spreading it across the garage (floor. She
looked extremely tired.I expected her to walk straight inside.Instead, she stopped. For
several seconds, she stared at my crooked (buildings and strangely colored sky. Then
her expression softened."I used to paint,"she said quietly.
封
I almost laughed, thinking she was joking. After we stepped into the house,Mom pulled
open an old drawer in her bedroom and took out a dusty wooden box.Inside lay brushes,
colorful paints, and a photograph of a much younger mom standing proudly beside a beautiful
painting.I had never seen that part of her.She picked up one of the brushes, then hesitated.
"It's been years."Something in her voice made me move aside and hand her a blue paint.

(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Eventually,I persuaded Mom to help me make changes to the painting on the backdrop.

After the backdrop won recognition,we decided to paint on one window of the bakery
together.
