Every afternoon after school, children played happily in the Giant's(巨人的) garden. It was a lovely garden with soft green grass, and twelve peach trees full of pink and white flowers. Birds sang sweetly in the branches(树枝).
The Giant was away visiting a friend for seven years. When he came back, he saw children playing in his garden. “What are you doing here?” he shouted angrily. The children ran away in terror(恐惧), as fast as they could. “My garden is my garden,” he said. “Only I can play here.” So he built a high wall around it and put up a sign.
After that, spring came everywhere, but in the Giant's garden, it was still winter. Birds did not sing, and trees did not flower. Only the cold north wind and snow visited. The Giant felt sad. He wondered why spring never came.
One morning, he heard a bird singing beautifully. He looked out and saw children coming through a small hole in the wall. They sat in the trees, and where each child sat, the tree grew many flowers. Birds flew and sang happily. Only in one corner was it still winter. There, a little boy cried because he was too small to climb a tree.
The Giant felt sorry. “How selfish I was!” he said. “Now I understand.” He went down, gently helped the boy into the tree, and then knocked down the wall. “This garden is yours now, children,” he said. From that day, the garden was always full of children's laughter, and spring stayed there forever.

Noise-canceling headphones(降噪耳机) bring you a quiet world, but using them for too long might be bad for your brain, according to The New York Post.
Doctors from the UK's National Health Service(NHS) have seen more young people having “ear problems”. These problems include having trouble understanding speech or needing subtitles(字幕) to watch videos. However, their ears are healthy. It's their brains that are affected. This problem is known as auditory processing disorder(APD,听觉处理障碍). People with APD can hear sounds but find it hard to understand them.
“For our hearing to work well, our brains need to choose which sounds to focus on and which to ignore(忽略). We get the skill when we hear different sounds. If we don't hear different kinds of sounds, we can lose this skill,” said NHS doctors. Noise-canceling headphones take away these different sounds, which might be part of the problem.
Claire Benton from the British Academy of Audiology said that wearing these headphones creates a “false” environment where you only hear what you want. This makes it easier for your brain, so it doesn't have to work as hard.
Noise travels in waves through air and water. Noise-canceling headphones stop these waves in two ways: One is to use things like special ear cups. The other is to use a microphone(麦克风) to cancel out noise with opposite sound waves.
This technology can be harmful if you use it too much. However, it is still helpful for people working in noisy places.
( )28. What problem do people with APD have?
A. They are unable to hear loud sounds.
B. They have difficulty understanding sounds.
C. They have trouble reading the subtitles in videos.
( )29. Why might noise-canceling headphones be bad for your brain?
A. They stop you from hearing different sounds.
B. They give out unhealthy waves from the microphone.
C. They change the direction of important sound waves.
( )30. What does Paragraph 5 mainly talk about?
A. Why headphones have ear cups.
B. How noise travels through air.
C. How noise-canceling headphones work.
( )31. What is the best title for the text?
A. A Good Helper for a Quiet Life
B. A Must-Have for Music Lovers
C. A Quiet World, a Hidden Risk

第一节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
Many students have a hard time remembering things and finding the right way to study. But Tang Yihan, a student from Beijing, has her own secret way to learn: spaced repetition(间隔重复法). Spaced repetition is about reviewing what you've learned many times just before you forget it. This method helps you improve your memory.
Tang wasn't always at the top of her class. Before, she often forgot what she had learned in class. Things started to change when her Chinese teacher introduced her to spaced repetition. Tang first used this method to learn ancient Chinese poems. Over the years, she has used it for all her subjects.
In general, spaced repetition suggests reviewing materials first after one day, then three days later, then a week later, and finally a month later. But Tang believes the review plan should be flexible(灵活的). “You should change your review plan to meet your own needs,” she said.
Take math as an example. After each test, Tang writes down her mistakes in a notebook and goes over them in the middle of the week. On weekends, Tang reviews the mistakes again. “I don't just check those mistakes; I also try to find different ways to solve them,” Tang said. This active thinking often leads to surprising moments. “Sometimes, after a night's sleep, the problems that I had struggled with(苦苦思索)suddenly become clear.”
Tang believes it's a good idea to review difficult materials more often, while spending less time on things you already know well. Now, Tang has jumped from the middle ranks(梯队) to the top three in her class. “It is truly amazing,” she said.
